In my opinion you are so very very wrong but at the same time so very very right
"2 was very good" cant argue with you there, ive always said that homm2 was the real deal, but yeah it was back then... even if homm3 was superb and had more features it didnt really trigger the feeling of new gen or next gen. Now... Oblivion (which is totally off topic, although u did mention it) DID bring a lot of new gen and some glorious next gen playing moments. (720P 110 inch screen)
You couldnt seriously say that you werent impressed by the graphics of oblivion the sweet first moment when you first left the caves?!?!?! (unless you went out there in the middle of the night, cant believe they didnt script that for noonish, the difference is BIG.. beeing the first experiencing detailed graphics as far as the eye allows and all )
Sure oblivion has issues... its just pretty, polished.. more creatures, gameplay is kind of what you did get with morrowind... still ive played oblivion many hours/days! than i spent on morrowind. Reason beeing they have spent some serious time to get this game as playable as possible. Im getting my pants wet just thinking about all the cool mods that will emerge...
Homm3 in my opinion is a good attempt at a proper sequel but...... all it did bring was more of everything that was good with homm2. Still it was just homm2 with better gfx and more of everything. Then along came homm4..... oh the utter despair i felt when i realised that the heroes of series had taken the same road as the might and magic series..... quantity is better than quality.. or was it the other way around now?
After playing the homm5 demo im glad to see a reincarnation of homm2 but in a next gen environment. The nice and coosy feeling is back, gfx are beefed and looks good in the new 3D rendering, especially in the turn based tactics part.
I have always been a strong believer in that you shouldnt convert a 2d game to 3d just for the sake of it... homm3 could easly have been a poor 3d clone... Kudos for not going down that path until the series was ready for it!
Long post.. cant even remember what i am quoting stay away from booze!
