Joke, right ?
I mean, you cant possibly believe that learning about other countries isnt good for ones own society ?
If, as you state is, we learn about other countries and want to move to other countirs (NOT USA), then perhaps its possible that the geographical learning has been slowed in the US, to keep younger citizens in the US. For if they learned about other countries and what really happened, im sure alot would be frustated. But WAIT HEY IT GETS BETTER!!
For George Bush 4th Reich is pumping nationlalism into the minds of the everyday american! Its beeeeeyuutiful right ? I mena love your own country, fight and die!
Its all a joke right ?
Edit: Just read through, and half probaly doesnt make sense

Yeah who cares right!? Now Bush can say Iran is right next to america and might send infantry to invade, so he needs to break the constitution and have a third term! Then all the idiotic sheep of america can vote for him again and fuck up their country even more!
How fagtastic!

- We are mostly East Indian, and Asian here . If you see a black person chances they are from Africa. Richmond is almost all Asian, Yoahana Shopping mall is all Asian and they let you know you arn't really welcome there. In my area where I live it's all Indian. I saw the class pictures from my neighbors and its 100% Indian in both classes.
- Yesterday I went out shopping to the market, subway, video store (mostly browse don't rent) and I didn't come across one white person. I thought "I wonder what the NFOrce people would think of this" It's just how it is here and you don't notice it.
YourGod wrote: | It is always funny how you people think that geographical is important. In a large rich country most people will never leave their country or even state. So who cares about were the other countries are. And Who the hell wants to go to New York?
The three R's are all that matters. |
The 3 R are only the basics, I would imagine all parents would want their kids to have more than the just the basics, Physical activity, and sports are important in terms of health. US has a major obesity problem. It is like night and day when you go across the border into Washington.
Science is important, socials, chem... , physics, geography, computer science
What if your kids wanted to become a doctor they need more than the 3 R's, they are going to need sciences, social skills, endurance too.
I think all knowledge is important, even if its not useful stuff at least you can play Trivial Pursuit and kick ass.
I think its important to know the basics of Geography as well. I think it is really sad when people don't take the time to travel, you get to see the world yourself instead of through others peoples eyes. Plus its really fun. I know its hard for a lot of people to do this because they have kids at younger ages or can't afford it. I can't imagine what it's like not have been able to even experience SNOW, or the hot tropical OCEAN. Can you imagine not ever even seeing the OCEAN??? I remember when I saw the Grand Canyon for the first time, I felt so small. It was an eye opening experience. Mexico was an awesome experience. The people bend over backwards for you down there, I always heard horror stories but yet I found it perfectly safe.
I think knowing basic Geography is important for many reasons but most importantly because other people will judge you as ignorant. It can also help you in terms of job performance in a global economy.

With todays technology there is more important things to comprehend that geography.
America really doesn't need the rest of the world to survive.

Well I guess if all you talk about is the last animal you shot and how many hamburgers you had for breakfast it isn't.
But for those people who actually want to know whats going on in the world, and be able to make informed decisions about their political stance it is.

I know exactly where we get our oil. And I am sure most Americans know where Canada is.
So your statement is flawed.

I don't think my statement is flawed I said...
"I have met Americans who didn't even know where Canada is." I was non specific as to the amount expect that it was more then 1. When I was putting my self through school I took a telephone job for a US company. People would ask me often where I was from because they thought I had an accent. The question I was asked most what "Where exactly is that dear?" (edit part of my sentance was deleted)
Personal question for you. What state are you from? and have you ever travelled?

Again, Geo isn't important. Nice, but has little value in the real world, not this fantasy INTERNET world you all live in.

Then how can we manage our borders, document imports/exports, police the Middle East, and send innocent people to Eastern Europe if we don't know what is where? Basic geography is required, but people seem to even lack that.
Also, history is a major issue. I feel that people should spend more time reading about our past than about the bible. Unfortuneatley, it seems to be the opposite around here People here can't tell me who we bought land off of in the 1800's, who we went to war with, what we did during the Cold War etc... sad how little people know

If your aspirations include shooting animals and raping city folk who come wondering into your territory then no, it's not important.
If on the other hand you want a job involving logistics, economics, trade, transport, marketing, supply chain management and many others. Then yes it is useful.
It's obvious you're not very well educated if you think geography means nothing.

Why are you people so dense? The knowledge of where countries are does not help if you never leave your own country. You children always take everything to the extreme.
And I have more education than you, animal boy.

Well, I want to leave this country, and see the world, various cultures, people, places... educate myself about the world and see all the wonders human kind has achieved, not sit in a bedroom-bathroom apartment on the 11th story of an apartment complex in the middle of New York, idly staring at the TV watching American Idol reruns and living off of MacBurger Happy Meals, and lifting my ass off the chair every so often to go work on my shitty, underpaid job.

You can repeat yourself as many times as you like but it doesn't make true, the only thing that is true, is that it is not important to you and I shall leave it at that.

Yeah man. I want to go everywhere!
I've been all over Canada (Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Halifax) and eastern USA (Buffalo, NY City, Boston, Cedar Point, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Orlando, Tallahassee, so many others)... Domincan Republic ... I'm going to Europe next year (England, Ireland, France at least) ... hopefully Austrailia/NZ in a couple years, Vancouver again for 2010 olympics .... Why wouldn't you want to see everywhere on this rock?
