My friends and i were wondering if the Canadian police were allowed to investigate onto US grouds (Physicly and Virtualy) without getting out of jurisdiction? We did some research but found nothing on that matter. So can they cross the physical/virtual border without having a warrant or the authorisation of the FBI to conduct a criminal investigation? Im talking about normal investigation not related to child porn.

no
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year, running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears. Wish you were here.

You seriously think that the US would allow a foreign country to investigate anything on their soil, i think that's never gonna happen, and right they are.

Ya we figure that out...but we're looking at actual laws saying they cant...or they can but need to do it under restrictions...actually, we are trying to see if International laws (North America) changed since 9/11 giving Canada a bigger range for investigation leads in the US or the investigation still need to be made by the FBI and Canadian police will assist them. Not talking about physical investigation...im talking about virtual investigation aswell

No the Canadian police or RCMP are not allowed to investigate onto US grounds. And vica verca, however that is an issue with the Marc Emery- Vancouvers Prince of Pot guy. I couldn't find a better article but this will do. The issue was that US DEA crossed the line, trying to buy pot off Marc over the phone. They also physically crossed the border as well, and its believed the DEA tapped his Canadian phone too. I don't know whats going on now about it.
But I am sure law enforcements from both countries will work together. In BC I think they work together sometimes when it comes to the HA's and other bikers
http://www.cannabisculture.com/articles/4639.html
Quote: | Since moving to BC over 11 years ago, I never owned vehicles, property, bonds, investments, assets, or off-shore accounts. I leased everything on a month-by-month basis, including my vehicle and my apartment. If I had money stashed, the police or Income Tax people would have found it. I was watched extensively. I presumed my cell phone was always monitored. (When, in late July, the DEA undercover agent posing as seed buyer tried to get me to sell her ten pounds of pot over the phone, I refused and told her that I always assumed my cell phone was monitored, so how could she be so foolish and naïve? When she asked again at a later time, I lectured her at length. Not only did I not sell pot, she was being very reckless to even think about importing pot to the USA.)
The DEA even has a subscription to Cannabis Culture, with their money orders on US Department of Justice stationery. I figured if the US government got that pissed off, they’d just ask the Vancouver Police to raid me like in the 1996 to 1998 period.
I was always raided after appearing in A-list American media. A month after the Wall Street Journal: raided. A month after Rolling Stone: raided. Two months after the CNN Visits Canada’s Prince of Pot special in October 1997: raided. The police took a million dollars in store and business assets in total, but I was not even charged on either occasion, and received small fines from the courts when I was charged on two others. The last fine I got for selling seeds in 1998 was $700 per count; seven counts, $5,000 in total. From a $700 fine for seeds in 1998, to life imprisonment without parole or the death penalty in 2005 ... that’s a fantastic contrast. |

Canadian police agencies arent allowed to operate inside the US...unless, the US gives permission for them to do so.
And most of the time, both American and Canadian police forces work together if need be.
From what I hear (I dunno if its true, dont wanna know either) we have DEA agents roamin Toronto because of the upsurge in cross border dealing/shipping and shit. And supposedly we have some rcmp on the other side of the border protecting Canadian interests...again, pure street speculation

Oh, I gotcha.
I recall seeing something on CBC a few months ago about various Joiint Task Forces we have going on with the Americans. They send the G men up here and we send the rcmp down there.

Any evidence collected over the net I think is fair game. World wide right? I think its more of a physical problem
One of the DEA complaints about the marc guy was that he was selling seeds across the border to US citizens on-line from Canada. There was talk that they wanted to extradite him to the US based on his actions that were happening on American Soil. I think Canada said Nope you can't have him It's not in the news now. I don't know if Marc dude is a Canadian citzens either. I would imagion it makes a different .
I do know that the US police had information on Canadian Citz. addresses, criminal records. I used to know a cop from the states a long time ago and talking to him online one day he told me my street addess and my phone number, some drivers licence stuff, knew I had no records. I didn't give him any of this. He knew a last name and he knew my birthday (cuz it was when I met him) The only way for him to contact me was through e-mail. It was really creepy. I think you have to have valid reasons for searching people because unless you are some uber1337 cop and can erase your tracks I think you would get in shit if your acess id was all over where it shouldn't be.
Ohh and that drug tunnel on Zero Avenue .) that was a joint DEA/RCMP undertaking.
Syco. "From what I hear (I dunno if its true, dont wanna know either) we have DEA agents roamin Toronto because of the upsurge in cross border dealing/shipping and shit"
I have heard the same thing. How can they be all undercover like if they have to come up with excuses why they can't cross the border for a job.
But seriously I think think anyone has nothing to worry about unless you are some big ass fish.

If the Americans would let a Russian detective operate inside the US during the cold war, of course they'd allow the Canadian Police/RCMP to work in the US, and vice versa for the US agents in Canada.
Just kidding of course. I'd bet they do work together to a certain extent, but I would bet only with the permission and supervision of the host country. Its not like you'd be arbitrarily arrested by the RCMP in the US and hauled off to a Canadian version of Guantanamo Bay. |
