Some time ago, when I had XP Pro *non* corporate, I tried to download and install SP2. When I installed it, next time I restarted my system, that 30-day activation suddenly popped up and I couldnt disable it no matter what I tried. Downloaded several cracks, non worked.

My question is, now that I have the corporate edition which required no activation, will it be safe to update to SP2?

Corp is specially made not to require activation because of the hassle it would cause in a corporate environment. I have SP2 on a non-legit copy of corp and its never asked to be activated.

There's no problem updating to SP2 if you have a VLK serial. The SP-installations are a bit picky about the serials, but you can change it from windows, without the need for reinstalling. The best would to get a serial from a keygen that produces valid keys. You'll still have a problem with the windows update page though, but the solution to this is posted in another thread here.

I have a legal Volume License Edition, slipstreamed Sp2 and all hotfixes up to March 2006 on it myself, runs without any problems.

well, i installed it on an older HD to test it. but it still complaints about not having a genuine key, still have to use the javascript thingy workaround. i think its not really the corporate editition. i downloaded this one:
Microsoft.Windows.XP.Professional.Corporate.SP2.Integrated.March.2006.MULTI.IMAGE-ETH0

how can i find out if i really have the corporate edition installed? under system properties it still says: Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2

any ideas?

The difference is that the Corporate Edition doesn't want to activate itself. I think your problem is most likely key related, MS must have blacklisted it.
