If I buy one I'd buy the Iriver IFP 790. 40 hours battery time and support for many formats incl OGG: Other than that It's very little and handy, and It's flash based (256, 512, 1gb etc). It's also very nice looking and elegant.

It doesnt suck as I use something "better", I would understand people getting the early versions when it was a revolution (I got one then) but now its just being a drone and buying something because of people calling it "Fashionable"

The point is that, as much as I hate apple, and as much as I detest some of their products (computers mostly) as overpriced, underperforming pieces of shit, they have managed to make a great product. Nothing comes close to the iPod in terms of user friendliness. That click wheel is far better than the paltry control systems used by everything else on the market.
Yes, they're expensive. Yes, the battery life isn't that great compared to others. But who the hell needs a 24 hour battery? Do people really use music players that much between charging points?
