My system is Sempron 2600+ with latest v6.5 beta driver,In the SMARTGART Options the Fast Writes is grayed and is also Off. What's the problem and how can I enable the these options?
The AGP speed is at 8x and the fast read is also off in the ATI control pannel. I also can't enable these options.I tried Retest it doesnt do anything...
I'm sure that the AGP fast write option is set to auto detect in my BIOS settings.
Any ideas to enable these options?

Thanks,

When your control panel comes up, hit the button for advanced options. Then go into smartgart and you can change your fastwrites to on. Just because you have it set in the bios doesn't mean sqaut with the ATI drivers. They leave fastwrites off because it may cause instability with your system.

Okay. A little bit of success. I updated my VIA drivers (as I always forget to do that after a format) and tried Hitman again. On the lowest settings it is now 'playable' to the extent that the framerate is no longer like treacle and tolerable - however it looks like shit and it still plays like it. I'm still going to have to wait I guess as I don't want to ruin the experience. Again considering I have little difficulty playing new titles, including Oblivion it seems somewhat strange.

Fastwrites still won't enable... I have an MSI Kt4 Ultra and ATI x850xt

I personally have the latest CATS and I have fastwrites in the BIOS AGP settings area (and it's enabled) but it still won't let me enable it in advanced options of the ATI control panel. What gives?

Okay I feel like such an idiot. FASTWRITES WORKS FOR ME TOO. The problem was I needed to update my VIA DRIVERS, which I did.... but because I was furiously tinkering before this I must have forgotten to re-enable fastwrites in the BIOS and so thinking it was still enabled I figured it definately wasn't working for me.

However I just re-enabled it and boom... night and day as previously said.

Why? No idea... but it works a treat - finally with everything on the highest settings I can enjoy hitman as intended Smile

Well this may sound ridiculous but its the solution that works for me. I can only get decent performance if I run in 1280x7xx, whatever the 16:9 resolution is. If I set it to that resolution it runs at mostly normal speeds.

I tried all the AGP stuff, and have fast write enabled, changed my AGP aperture size, none of that helped, but when I run in 16:9 it works, if I set it back to 1024x768 or 800x600 it becomes so slow its unplayabe.

Ok, found the solution with fast write + omega drivers, you choose in the install of the drivers if you want to enable fast write or not.

Okay guys, I got it working as well.

I updated my chipset drivers and then re-enabled fastwrite (remember to enable it in BIOS and then make sure it's enabled in your GFX card settings). Now the game runs like a dream.

I got Hitman to run smooth as silk (settings on high) on my rig after I installed the Omega drivers and enabled the fastwrites in my BIOS and in the Omega software. It also fixed the crashing issues I had with HOMM5 and Rise of Legends.

I made sure m fast write was on, always was before I even installed the game. However the funny thing is, I cant disable it, even if i turn it off in the bios it still says its on in windows, and turning it off in windows, upon restart its still on...

So I'm guessing the reason fast write isnt helping my frame rates is because its not working correctly.

You can turn it on with Rivatuner if you can't find it in advanced settings in the Nvidia settings. I am told fastwrites is something you can enable in nvidia drivers too but I don't have a card of theirs anymore so can't verify.

Darkknight have you got up to date motherboard drivers? Mine wasn't working either until I updated those.

Just get the coolbits reg file for the Detonators and you have all the options you need, and no extra software required.

Okay, using RivaTuner I can see that Fastwrites is disabled and grayed out. According to the tooltip this is because my AGP port is running in 3.0 mode

The Radeon 9000 series of cards was not designed to run with Fastwrites enabled. Enabeling Fastwrites with those cards will give you more problems; ex. random crashes and lock ups. Don't bother enabeling Fastwrites unless you have a GeForce card or any of the Radeon X series.

Like I said before. Try playing around with your AGP aperture size in the BIOS. Try with 64 then 128 worked for me.

Maybe someone can help me - I've got Fast Writes enabled in the BIOS but in WinXP the Forceware Control Panel, RivaTuner, and SiSoft Sandra tell me its disabled! Also, when booting into Windows my AGP setting gets set to 4x rather than the max 8x but I can change it by moving the slider in the control panel... why (on both accounts)?!
