um...how about a heads up? did ANYONE get it to work? Or is everyone still waiting on those updated dlls or whatever that was?
And what do I need? The CS:Source HL2 Beta port or just the .gcf for cs:source and then some additional stuff?

Ok, here is how it is for people who is teh stupid....
The RE-PACK is released - contains both server and client for play on ALL servers. Works, until Valve release a new patch for CS:S and so an update is required.
Que the 18mb UPDATE which actually fucks up CS:S for most people, meaning that the game jumps back to desktop constantly.
Now, finally, V3 is out which is the newest version (playable on all servers), with a new exe and dll file package which allows the game to be played as well as it did on the re-pack, on all current servers.
Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a simple patch to bring the 18mb patched version to V3....
I hope this helps all teh n00bs!

And as for what you need - A valid steam account - thats it! You don't need HL2 beta, you don't need the CS:S GCF file, just the V3 (or earlier re-pack if you wanna try it out offline) and a valid installation of steam!

170 MB - it's smaller than the re-packed version because i presume it doesn't include the ability to host server.
Also, i found on the game that 1024 with NO AA made it run crap. I changed to 800x600 with 2xAA and even 4xAA and it ran LOVELY.
i'm only on a gf3ti500, xp2400 and 768 pc2100 ram also!

Bah, I cant get it to work... Only says "Not logged in". Anyone know how to fix that?
Edit: Fixed it... just change the "your@email.com" in steamapp.cfg to your steam login name email.

That doesn't always worked Surray, theres a few people having this problem with valid emails - might be because they don't own CS under their Steam account?
They're in the minority tho- works for most

so what do you need to do with the v3? You can browse the games online in steam? That seems unlikely to me....
Any more info on this?

You can click "Play online" - then an ingame server browser lists all the servers. Double click on one, and then play.
It may seem unlikely, but its true... What more info you need?!

update...
Just had info to suggest v3 is infact not working either. On connecting to a game, its said to just kick outta the game.
No confirmation of this yet.

ok its official, V3 is just V2 with update, a patch and the console.
its rubbish, and doesn't work. Doesn't even go into server.
if you wanna play, the only way is with friends using the re-packed version (v1 in my books).
You cannot play this version online with proper servers, just connect to other peoples IP's with the repacked version.
Don't, i repeat DONT waste your time with V3 - its NOT WORKING

Well V3 may well be patched at some point, so it might not be that much of a wasted effort

they want more money! first people who test it were valve's cafe. they pay every month the 2nd were those who bought cs:cz the latest vavle product. these two are the most recent/active purchasers of valve's product therefore if you want to play it like the others buy cs:cs/own a valve cafe. it's that simple!

I'm not entirely sure what error everyone gets, but when I follow the re-pack's directions and launch a shortcut, the DOS box pops up, then for a split second i see the CSS background in a window on my desktop, then it closes and launches an error box that says "Unable to set mode". The DOS box still sticks around.
Is someone else getting this error?
