199.. mmm.. 5? 6?

Quote:
Gamers have long waited to sink their teeth into Prey, the shooter from 3D Realms and Human Head that was first announced back in the late 1990s. The game is headed for the Xbox 360 and PC July 10, after a long stint in development limbo.

2K Games and 3D Realms aren't waiting around for midsummer to let gamers try their hand at the sci-fi first-person shooter. On the 3D Realms Web site, the company has announced that the demo for the game will be available for the PC and Xbox 360 on June 22.

Details on the intricacies of the demo have yet to be revealed, but early word from the developer indicates it won't be tiny. According to 3D Realms, the demo will consist of five levels, picked from both the multiplayer and single-player portions of the game.

In Prey, gamers play as Tommy, a Native American auto mechanic who finds himself at the center of an alien invasion. Using the powers of his ancestors and a healthy helping of firearms, Tommy takes on the bad guys in the grafity-defying, portal-hopping action game.

Prey has not yet been rated and will retail for $49.99 and $59.99 on the PC and Xbox 360, respectively. Limited-edition versions will also be available for $10 more. For more details on the game, check out GameSpot's

So what is so good about this game? All I see is another shooter with great graphics. But what does this shooter have that others don't? What makes it so special? That you can go in some ghost mode and shoot with a bow and arrow? Cause if that's it It's weak. Someone please tell me....

I don't think there's anything revolutionary about it. Just another FPS. Fun to play though...I hope.

From how it looks, PREY is just like doom3, only much more grotesque and hellish.

No shit.
The graphics engine does not detremine the gameplay, for example the first game with the first Unreal engine was actually a pinball game.
What I meant is that the developers followed the steps of Doom3 and created a much similar game, but better in every aspect.

doom3 engine may not be the prettiest thing on the block but atleast it runs good on my computer. I'll have to upgradeor make them look like crap to run UE3 games

im convinced that doom3 engine is far the best engine till now. better than the hl2 engine (and even the newest episode one engine), better than the fear engine too.
strange is that it is not very used with the exception of q4.

I agree with you about the unique atmosphere, but not about the gameplay. PREY's gameplay while being unique and innovative, still feels the same as it shares the same core with DOOM3. From watching gameplay movies it is easily seen that the fighting is very similar in the two games- Very fast paced, mostly at close range against enemies who prefer using melee attacks most of the time.

no shit , every FPS is the same Kill all only the theme changes - ww2 or Space its all the same
but some times a miracle happens and a unique game appears like Condemned

I know what I'm talking about, I saw a gameplay movie of PREY and played DOOM3 today. It's quite noticable that the core mechanics are all the same. When this game will get released you'll see for yourself.

And Condemned is not that special, The Chronicles of Riddick had done it first and much better than Condemned had.

That's like comparing Far Cry with Call of Duty 2, Chronicles of Riddick did have some melee weapons but I found the animations to be glitchy and wierd, Condemned does a much better job at creating Survival-Horror with melee weapons (Riddick is action, not survival horror).

lol Liansk!

I have to agree though that comparing CoR with Condemned is wrong.Condemned had much more lively melee fights and it was really scary sometimes. CoR was a standard FPS.
