Seems reloaded's release isn't working for me. During the install steps I get "error = -1"

Anyone else getting this?

*edit*

Seems that razor's release is doing the same to me when I try to install. Must be something on my end.

hmm when will groups learn to not mess with rld. the recent crap coming from rzr only furthers the speculation that they clearly are not the old rzr. Interestingly, Shane Pitman had nothing to say about his old group ressurecting.. probably has moved on.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Quote Rome.Total.War.Alexander.WORKING.PROPER-RELOADED NFO:
"Razor managed to bungle their proper of this game, they fixed the trigger
tables wrong resulting in a non working game. Look below for one example of
this.
RLD:
00DD7738: 81D285A8096F ADC EDX, 6F09A885
RZR:
00DD7738: 81C285A8096F ADD EDX, 6F09A885"
Q: Well, how about painting the whole picture then?
A:
RLD:
00DD7732: 81F2FE63434E XOR EDX, 4E4363FE
00DD7738: 81D285A8096F ADC EDX, 6F09A885
RZR:
00DD7732: 81F2FE63434E XOR EDX, 4E4363FE
00DD7738: 81C285A8096F ADD EDX, 6F09A885
Q: So what does this tell us when the sole purpose of those opcodes is being
executed in this order like in this case?
A: see IA-32 Manual, Vol. 2B, 4-371
(Same applies to all other 'trigger tables'.)
Q: Did you guys actually try our crack?
A: Of course not. Else you would've noticed that it's working perfectly fine.
Obviously you prefer some quick bashing over proving your claims...
We conclude: another invalid proper done in a hit or miss fashion.
Hm, I think RLD knows what he is doing, as far as I can see the only difference is ADD vs ADC, so probably there was something wrong with that concerning RLD's release.
Is anyone else having problems playing this on LAN? It looks like the communication is only one way, as computer A cannot see computer B, and if B tries to join A's game, it gets "No response from host". No firewalls or what so ever is installed here.
You need the WMV 9 codec or something for the game to work.
Hmmm. Had no problem here. I have an old "scene" version of the orig game (don't know which one, RLD or whatever) installed and patched 1.3 and 1.5. Installed the Quartex version of Alexander and used the Razor Crack . About the codec...U guys installed the Media P 9 codec as instructed when installing vanilla RTW?. Only a thought.
EDIT!!!!!
Just played a bit and as soon you start a battle the game blips out to desktop.
Gona fiddle a bit, but for sure somet is fuked.
EDIT EDIT!
Just tried with the RLD crack and same result, blips out to desktop when entering battle
Sad Crap! I was really feeling like playing an historical game LIKE NOW! Wink
EDIT EDIT EDIT
As i am a lazy guy I did not read
Someone over at Gamecopyworld fixed it:
[QUOTE=Boicote]I FOUND THE PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The problem with the file from http://rapidshare.de/files/25373930/RomeTotalWarNoCd.rar.html are the sprites that are not working (i don't know why, but they are damaged)
To solve this problem you have 2 options:
a) create new sprites (experient "modders" only)
b) or disable the sprites. To do this follow the steps:
1-open the file C:/....Activision/Rome Total War/alexander/data/descr_model_battle.txt
2-press edit»replace text
3-in find what write "model_sprite" and in change to write ";model_sprite"
4-press change all
5-save and exit
6-place the file from http://rapidshare.de/files/25373930/RomeTotalWarNoCd.rar.html in the main folder
7-duble click on it
8-VERY IMPORTANT: have fun!
P.S. backup original RomeTW-ALX.exe and descr_model_battle.txt
[/quote]
Trying that now and thanks man for the heads up Smile
i don't really know much ASM but due to curiousity i looked up the docs rzr mentioned. so any experienced coders, feel free to correct me with this. first of all it seems they mention the wrong page it, the correct info is on 4-639 actually. anyway, here it goes:
Code:
Operation
DEST ← DEST XOR SRC;
Flags Affected
The OF and CF flags are cleared;
state of the AF flag is undefined.
This means that after each XOR the carry flag is set to 0. But what does it mean? The ADC RLD has in their crack is actualy an ADD CARRY operation which does the folowing
Code:
ADC Dest,Source. Dest:=Dest+Source+CF ...
so basically it adds 0x6F09A885 to the value in EDX *plus* the carry flag. whereas ADD only adds the contents of EDX to 0x6F09A885. So whats the difference between ADC and ADD? it's exactly 1 bit, depending if the carry flag is 0 or 1. BUT if you call the XOR before, the carry flag is always 0, so there is ZERO difference between doing and ADD or ADC.
The question is wether the code in the crack is always executed like that, or if there might be jumps directly to the ADC/ADD line. Then the carry flag might not get cleared and the result will differ by 1.
@opcode32:
They probably refer to this document where 4-371 corresponds to the passage you quoted:
ftp://download.intel.com/design/Pentium4/manuals/25366720.pdf
Quote:
Sounds to me like the differing opcodes aren't referred to anywhere else and therefore don't make any difference at all.
Dling as we speak. This better work... Wink
Though makes sort of sense what you say there. Cheers for the heads up mate.
PS you mean the Retail of RTW or the Alexander add on or both?
Ok SUCCESS!!!!
Using my old version of RTW (RLD or whatever) Patched 1.3 and 1.5. Fired up SafeDisc 4 Hider 1.1 Mounted the Total.War.Eras.Collection.EMUDVD-Unleashed version (did ONLY use the ALEXANDER add on from this release) with Deamon Tools 4.03 HE and it really works. Cheers Damador.
Some screen's from Alex (battle scenes)
Again:
1. Install RTW ( I guess any version of RTW, RLD, Unleashed or whatever)
2. Patch 1.3 and 1.5
3. Install Total.War.Eras.Collection.EMUDVD-Unleashed of Alexander using DT 4 (ONLY Alexander is needed from this release, at least my side)
4. Unmount from DT 4
5. Start SafeDisc 4 Hider 1.1
6. Mount Total.War.Eras.Collection.EMUDVD-Unleashed Alexander with DT 4
7. Hit "Hide" in SafeDisc 4 Hider 1.1
8. Play Wink
Just for history buffs I would recommend the following:
In the Footsteps of Alexander the Great with Michael Wood
"A journey of epic proportions with Michael Wood as he travels from Macedonia in Northern Greece to India, retelling one of the world's greatest stories. Divided into four parts"
The Spartans with Historian Bettany Hughes
"You'll get the whole story here: they leave little out - from Sparta's early beginnings, to it's strict social code, to it's intense training, it's subjectism of the neighboring Messenians, and the city-state's eventual decline. The only thing the documentary failed to capitalize on is the rise of the Macedonian powers and the fall of the various Greek city-leagues to Phillip II and his son Alexander the Great."
And of course Alexander the film directed by Oliver Stone
Not the best film, but if you are interested in the over alll story of Alexander of Macedon this is I guess a must. Although there is some historic faults in this film due to tempo or artistic license i guess. Never the less not to bad.
