So all the growing complaints about people cheating are just a fabrication to be ignored?
There are cheaters out there and half the time you can't even tell if they're cheating. You don't need a speed hack to cheat. I've seen aimbots undetectable through spectating. I've seen wall hacks undetectable through spectating. I'm pretty sure you've played with at least one hacker without even realizing it.
There are idiotic hackers who use aimbots + speed hacks together. And it's obvious. Very. And it's cute.
Valve doesn't care about hackers. The growing complaints sent to valve are just being ignored. The bug issues sent to valve are being ignored. Everything that's wrong with the engine that's valve informed about on a daily basis is being ignored.
What is that?
And no... it's not clever to check exactly how you're doing in a game. It ruins the game. If every game were to make it self set automatically on super easy novice mode, because you got stuck on a level, then what fun would you actually have? Games are meant to be fun and challenging. You take away one and it's not balanced.
Would you want Nintendo to modify every single Super Mario level to make it easier to beat? Or lower the fighting AI in every street fighter game? Come on! Games are remembered for the moments of joy they gave you. The feelings of total accomplishment after you’ve spent hours on a single difficult level in Super Mario. You know what I mean?
Reason why the elevator battle was great was because it was intense and difficult. Made you feel like death was imminent... and now it's a walk in the park. New gamers who'll try the level won’t see the excitement you and I saw the first time we played it. They won’t see what made it difficult.
And what's that? BULL SHIT!
It's not longer fun. It just becomes... another boring level.
I'm afraid that TF2 will go down this way. They will make it so easy for gamers that you'll need a lobotomy to actually enjoy the game.

Think you might need to calm down
There are lots of sides to every story and for the most part just because we don't see people flying past us and dodging bullets doesn't mean there are not cheats, which is true. However it also means that many people don't sit at their computer constantly getting worked up becasue they think every 3rd person cheats.
They can't dumb down TF as it was the most basic of gamplay elements, with the fun being derived from playing with other people, so should the game be simplified everyone will have to deal with it in an equal way.
I also feel that it was a clever way to utilise the steam software, the stats that they gave out a while ago showed lots of people not completing the addon or not moving past some sections of the game, so they decided to make it easier at that section. For lots of people this encourages them to play on and not get fruistrated and turn away, because suprisingly there are many people that are not that good at these types of games and need to be able to access all of the content.
There are also features to increase the difficulty as well (I think) so that shouldn't be a problem for other people looking for challenges. Many people have different views on what a game should provide, you sound like you enjoy constant challenges and like the rewards of completing a difficult section of a game unaided. Others may enjoy the story or journey but be put off by very hard events.
It shows they have gathered statistics and learnt from them, its a smart move in that respect, whether you agree with it on a personal level or not.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
I ran a CS clan that primarily used cheats. I just know that valve does nothing to stop people from cheating. Valve just doesn’t care. Server admins do more work to prevent cheaters while VAC2 is just there… doing nothing.
Episode 1 wasn't at all difficult to most gamers... people just got bored. That's what the stats didn't show: people just getting bored of the product. What was it? 37% of actual gamers completed the game? The rest just stopped? What is that? Because of the difficulty? Fuck… the train yard section of the game was just so fucking annoyingly boring that I just wanted to stop playing. So tedious. So monotonous. Truly an awful sequel.
And no, it's not a smart move. I don’t care how brilliant you think it is… when a company ignores all the major faults in their game and just improves on what might sell the game even more… then it’s not brilliant at all. It might be a brilliant marketing strategy… give the current customers what they want (not need) and ignore the gamers. I mean… honestly… look at the gamers Valve tries to appeal to. It’s not the people who played HL when it came out. They’re appealing to kids. And kids never know what they want. Kids get easily bored. Valve looks at the stats which are predominantly ‘controlled’ by children who’d be better off playing ratchet and clank series on the ps2.
If valve at least cared for its customers... then I might have a different view. But they don't.

o.o You didn't. You just bashed HL2 EP1? You deserve death.
The game was fun all the way through and never bored me at all, even if it was short. I liked EP 1 more than HL2. So meh. And yes, I played the unpatched version The one with the difficult elevator part.

Funny eh, Valve can build up an immense hype about a game, then dissapoint and postpone it's release again and again, until finally cancelling it. Then years later they acn announce the same titel again and people jump right on it getting all hyped up again.
Go Valve! you can do anything you want to your audience, cause they don't care about getting fucked over repeatedly.

Not quite sure what has happen to you personally, but how is it screwing over their customers? Not releasing a game is screwing nobody over, unless you preordered a game and even then its between you and the people you preordered it from (and i'm sure you can get your money back whenever so that shouldn't be a problem).
Did it screw you over because you got your hopes up for a game based on some initial vague reports? |
Some initial vague reports huh, guess what game won Best online game @ E3 in 1999.
http://www.avault.com/e3-1999/index.asp?d=awards
Anyway Steam is the ultimate screw job itself, half finished Betas that you can help test if you buy it, Valve will take some money off too if you do this, preorder and test it please. I used to hate fileplanet subscriber betas but thanks to Steam I'm just glad they still call them betas.
And to play the one or two Betas you like and want installed on your PC, you need to have Adware/Spyware also. I can't wait for other companies do the same and I will need 5 types of Adware/Spyware on my system for the 8 games I have on it, I will probably need to have them all start with windows (ouch) so I won't have to wait to play the Betas when I want... That is if the networks aren't down and I can even play them.
Patchs and updates are not features, Steam was built for developers in recliners and profit not for gamers, just because you release a map editor and leave the game open for modding, does that mean it's cool to SELL a game with 4 MP maps, a few player models and no decent vote system, here you go finish our work for us. oops did we break the adminmod for no good reason, just wait till they fix it (while gabe drives his Bens to Mcdonalds). We're sorry if you get sick of the Beta in a week but the update that adds one map two months later will surely bring you back to Steam to buy more Betas.
I don't care about TF2 I would but I know it will be pushed out with only so many maps, maybe they will add the pyro later. The community is not only the primary developers for valve but also about 90% of the support for their Betas, Let the games be GAMES again. Gabe doesnt need another ivory back scratcher, Boycott Steam!

They will buy hl2 epsidoe 2.
TF2 is bundled with it. So it goes both ways. People who want TF2 will have to buy ep 2 and those who want EP2 will pay for TF2.
I think since EP2 is the last EP from valve... it will cost an arm and leg

Look. It doesn't care.
People will still play TF2. There are few of us who think Valve is fiull of shit. But that is a small number. Other have moved on.
When ep 2 comes out... I will be playiing with my brand new Wii. I will still download provisions ep2.
I think that EP2 will be a lot more enojoyable than EP1. It seems to have OPEN envrioments. And that's cool in my opinion. But from what I''ve heard... the open eviroments will turn into close combat enviroments when you enter a missle silo.
Still. EP2 seems to be more enjoyable than ep1.
Anyway... whoever saw ep2 trailer... did they see the abe comparisions... I don't really remember the name of ABE's species... but they were chanting and such...
Anywho... I think if steam were to be BUG free it would've been fantastic. I like the idea of all the games being in one spot. There will be a day when STEAM will become perfect and that will be a great day.
Steam as it is now... is good. Just buggy. Very buggy. As is source.
But if you overlook the problems... you can see what steam was designed for. Once VALVe puts more devs on steam to fix it up... to patch it up... then only problem will be with source. and as long as there will be FPS games done with source... it's not a complete waste.

wtf is that? TF in cartoon style? The screenshot posted on the first page is running on HL1 and is old but there was screenshots on HL2 who looked pretty good (and realist), why did they switch to cartoon? That's no TF!!! I hope gameplay stay the same..

Inj, you know, a lot of people would call you a troll by now - at least let one pro-valve post slide. And it's very ironic that people wanting innovation are now cut that their sequel is actually different to it's predicessor (if but graphically).
Let me put it this way, why the hell shouldn't they cell shade it up, to get the young teenager market? Valve gets money for HL3 and the mod community once again picks up the slack. Come on people, you should know how this works by now.

QFT!
I enjoyed SIN and it looked toony. If TF2 is good then yes i will play it. But VALVe has ruined DOD:s and CS:s. They might ruin TF2. Only games that are medicore are their single players. TF2... doesn't seem like a single player game to me!
