I can see why there is such dissenting opinion on tipping here...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tip
Seems N.American countries are the only ones where tipping is considered almost 'mandatory'. So we're arguing about different customs in different countries.
(Also, it says that a couple of bucks is fine for a valet. ) |
What a stupid custom we have. Maybe we should be taken our cue from the europeans
Still, Im sure there is tipping in europe. You have to tip a the rippers you know? or what if your in amsterdam and you check out a chick workin in the red light district? if she fucks good, i'd tip her

First off.
In Canada, you tipp. Its kinda an unwriten rule. Expecially for say Small restaraunt staff like dennys etc. These people make shit, but there employer knows that people tip to subsidise there wages. The government also expects that these people recieve tipps and they get taxed on a certain percentage thats expected to come from tipps. So when you dont tip, that water/watress is actually making less than there wage in the long run. Come on, most tipps are like what 10-15 bucks. Everyone in canada should tipp.
second
Go to a place in the world that doesnt tipp, but there wages are higher becasue off this. Guess what, you get really shitty service (Worse than waiting 15 min for drinks) becasue there is no incentive.
And last.
Everyone should either
A. If you cant afford to help charities, volunter. Heck you can volunter at a drop in center like 1 day a month. And you get a good reference from it.
B. Donate money if you have it, FFS its a pure tax write off anyways. So its like telling the government how you want your money spent.
I (Well my company, its needs the write offs more than me) donate to about 10 charities every month. Some are personal like the muscular distrophy foundation (My cousin has MD) but others are organizations such as the drop in center in calgary, the womans shelter, etc. Sure we live in a society bound by the rules of capitalism. But it shouldnt make you heartless. Some people just need that one help up, and end up straigtening there lives out, get jobs, and in turn put back into society 10000X more than the inital help they recieved.
but on that same note, i dont give hand outs to pan handlers, and i dont support certain world organizations that skim monies off the top as administation charges.
It canada we have it really good. So share the wealth.

I always tip even if the food is bad. I have started leaving if the service is really bad. %15 of the bill without the tax is a low tip. I good tip is %20. (edit) A waiter/ress has to tip out themselves usually 3% to kitchen staff so if they get no tip usually they end up loosing money on that table. I worked as a waitress in Whistler and if there was a dine and dash it came outta my tips.
I also never leave the generic 2$ tip for a cheep meal. I will leave $3.
Valat parking I have only used a couple of times. You should pay about $3-4. I know lots of people only give $2. Sometimes they pick your clothes up for you too. That is about $3. If I was staying at a 4 star I would up everything by $1. I think it is really important to thank them as well. What is the point of a tip when you treat them like shit. I have seen that a lot.

maybe but we dont tip here. Last resturant we went to had to wait 1&1/2 hours for the food. Does that even deserve a tip? |
You sat around for 1 1/2 hours waiting? thats fuckin wrong. Longest i will wait is 45 minutes...and it had better be the best fuckin meal ever if it takes 45 minutes

panhandlers, I give to the non agressive ones and to squiggy kids. Over here it pays to be decent, I think it is safer. For example I hate it when one of them follows me out of the grocery store to my car because they want to take the cart back. (Our carts have a loonie deposit so they want it). I have to turn my back and stuff to get the food into the back seat but I always give them the cart. Sometimes they stick their head thro your window at red lights asking for pop cans and stuff. I give them some of my water bottles. I have seen my sister give $5, I give quarters and stuff.
&syco
You don't have to tip at strippers do you. You tip the people who bring you your drinks right? And you don't tip the stripper unless you want personal service. My girlfriend and I, and a group of guy friends on their stag got kicked out. First warning was for me and my girlfriend. 2nd was when of the guys sitting in gynie row told one of the strippers she had a HUGE zit on her ass. Didn't go over well.
For a call girl I think anything under $50 is an insult. So I have heard.

thats who i mean, the servers...they are hardcore bitches. Most of em strip or have stripped to. thats why i rarely go to the rippers anymore. way to expensive for nothing.
i'd much rather go to the club and try to pick up a girl who will come home with me and strip for me, you know?

I think most of the servers out here are pretty nice. I haven’t seen any be hardcore. I have only been to the female strippers a few times so I don’t really know. (you know those groups that drag the girls with them (2 maybe)
I think the male strippers are so phoney. It is funny to watch the other women go nuts.
How much do these servers expect as a tip They are the servers, not the dancers. I think they get $1 a drink. It would prob balance out much less then that. I bet they would make at least $20 for6-7 hr work on a good night. |
$1 a drink? lol you wouldnt get served around here. basically, on a friday or saturday, its $10 a beer (cheaper if you want the dollar back). $5.95-7.95 a drink + tip = $10
Strip joints are a rip off. Good to go during lunch when your working...but to go out for the night to nudie bar is pointless
I'd rather call 2 outcall strippers/working girls to come to the house and preform for my buddies and i you know? cheaper and flat rates

Well, as long as your in the bar spending money, tipping girls, gettin dances and not fuckin around to much, they usually dont care if your smashed.
Its gettin in while be loaded that is the problem.
And I have one friend who looks like he's on crack after 1 beer and a spliff. No joke. When he's sober, he looks baked. When he's baked, he looks cracked out

@YourGod.
Nothing to be embarrassed about giving a valet $3 as long as you look them in the eye when you thank them. I think.
