Brilliant game, spent 100 hours playing the downloaded clone, went and paid for it and have spent another 250 hours so far. Game never ends. Highly recommend playing the game in its pure form, nothing better then building up a huge fleet( 100 -1000 ships, however many you can buy and outfit) and taking them into an enemy sector and being in charge of a HUGE space battle, control one of your capital ships and lay waste from a distance, jump in one of your fighters or corvettes and get in amongst the action. Your choice. Be a trader and dominate the economy, be a pirate and have all races hate you, be a mercenary and fight for whoever, so many choices.

Dogfights aplenty.

Yes, I prefer TMS above POP3 at the moment. But except TrackMania there isn't a single TM cracked Sad

How about this for X3 scripts? Includes installer and script packages.

http://forum2.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=110772

Good call, looks nice, I've downloaded it and just waiting for my steam install to finish (yes, I [i]bought[/]i it Shocked)

I'm having a problem though downloading some other scripts which sound pretty neat;

http://forum2.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=98696
http://forum2.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=108768

One that makes the world a little more alive and the other with salvaging opportunities to simulate battle wrecks. I don't actually intend for me to install any on my first run through but I want to save them for later use - unfortunately they are in some weird extension and renaming it to .zip like they say doesn't work for me Confused

Anyone else know what to do?

And any other script suggestions?

Sorry, Ive played it a lot but I havent completed what I want to do in the pure version (complete domination, all other species bottled up into single sectors and my stations everywhere else) so havent even looked at the mods yet.

If you dont like long games look for mods that give you cap ships and control of sectors, cap ships can take quite a while to get, building reputation with the species that produce the type you want and the credits to actually buy the ship and then put shields and weapons on it can take awhile. Worth it when you get them though, I have carriers that hold 60 fighters, any of which I can fly.

Try using this to install scripts: http://forum2.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=121351

and my favourite ones are by this guy... http://forum2.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=110772

and for people who want to do some trading try this, its a life saver... http://forum2.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=111488

It is a hard game to get the hang of, and it does still have some annoying quirks, but once you get into it its probably as good a space game as there has been since Elite

sigh...ppl still havent learned that starforce games dont install starforce unless you run the original exe uncracked. seeing as this is the steam exe which has no starforce its obvious that it doesnt.

Wow, this game rocks. I've played eve online for a decent amount of time and this is what I wish eve online was.. its so good! I haven't even gotten very far, I've only played around with stuff trying to figure out how I want to play.. even still.. amazing!

I decided I want to be a "bounty hunter" with a bit of trading here and there but i dont want to play the story (is that a good idea? should I do it or is skipping it fine? I really want to just do what I like rather than *have* to do missions).. firstly though I want to learn how to steal ships.. I found that if I used the pre made "assassin" game this was a whole lot easier as i was harder.. but I should probably start with the "custom" game as you begin in a better possition (is it possible to change what you start with using this mode, the name custom indicates that you can?).. Any tips? Thoughts on none story vs story mode? Any must have mods which make the game more accessible (not easier as such, just give the game more content, make being a pirate that little bit nicer..)..

edit: And how the hell do you save? The stupid thing wouldn't save when i clicked save.. do i need to be docked to save?

Yeah you have to be docked in a station to save. It will auto-save when you dock, and you can manually save by going into the options screen on the docked menu. You can buy 'insurance credits' which will allow you to save outside of the station but I've not got around to that yet.

I'm not sold on this yet but I'm slowly getting there I think (in terms of getting to grips with the game). I've had to print off a load of guides from the forums and it's a lot of reading.

What bugs me is that this isn't Falcon 4 or something, you don't have to learn the ins and outs of flying a hugely complex machine - you have to get to grips with the un-intuitiveness of it all and it just sucks really as something more streamlined with the same depth would have been so much better Sad

Oh well.

Perseverance I guess.

I played through the storyline mode first time through, what a load of crap that was. The first few hours were chopped together and boring as hell..this was on first release mind you. The game is more suited to free-form style, make your own business/fleet kinda thing.

That's persuaded me not to bother with it then Wink! Any tips on which mode to use though?

well its hard to tell becoz this game is like The Sims , the campaign is like a big tutorial that sets you for the real game - life in space

Quickstart, you get a 'lot' of credits and two ships (one for trading). It's what I'm using to get to grips with it anyway, dunno about you. You can always ignore the storyline even though it's there.

Playing the campaign through is the quickest way to achieve the reputaion to be able to buy better stuff. You dont have to do it all at once, first few missions are easy, get to the mission after you are in space suit drifting, then leave for a bit to explore/trade/fight.

And dont forget the free ships.

Good way to make quick easy credits, you would keep the Nova and Mamba for yourself, the rest will make you a few million credits.

Best guide. Maps etc included.

Thx for edit, soz should have added spoiler tags. numbers next to them are the coordinates for them, cruise around in sector map mode once in the sector and match the numbers, gets easy, lol.

I never bothered with the storyline, its awful to be honest, they shouldn't have put it in at all.

Have a look at the mods I posted above, there are some excellent ones that add extra content like BBS missions and guilds you can join. Makes the universe a much more interesting place to be. Also, for first time players i'd suggest using the 'quickstart' mode, unless you really want a challenge. After you get to grips with it you can use the 'custom' mode which takes out the annoying storyline, but also leaves you with hardly any assets to start with.

There are additional start points which can be unlocked in the game as well, or just added with a script.
