Secaucus (NY) - Christmas is less than half a year away and some of us may already setting up their wish list for their parents and spouses. If you are looking for something different this year, ditch that Porsche and consider the world's largest plasma HDTV.

Panasonic is delivering on its promise that it would be offering a 103" plasma TV, which is expected to be the world's largest plasma TV screen size when it hits the market. Large TVs never have been cheap at their market introduction, but Panasonic may be setting a record with a price that is high enough to qualify for the headline of this year's Neiman Marcus holiday catalog. The TH-103PZ600U will cost a stunning $69,995 and 95 cents, including a three-year in-home limited warranty - which is "unprecedented" in the industry, according to Panasonic.

"Panasonic didn't create the world's largest plasma TV as a technology demo for a trade show," said Andrew Nelkin, Panasonic's display group vice president. "We created it because, as worldwide sales of Plasma TVs continue on a meteoric rise, the market is seeking bigger displays on which people can experience the High Definition lifestyle.

I think 103” isn’t that big for $70,000. My old one (on loan from a friend) was 54” so it is about double. Mine was a older projection,

Totally not a practical but I know some family's that have those built in theatre rooms. Those rooms could hold a 103”.

I think plasma only lasts 10 yrs before they burn out? You can’t leave games on them paused either or else the image burns itself into the screen. Plasma has come along ways but I still think the technology isn’t there to warrant a $70,000 Plasma TV.

Altho to some people $70,000. isn’t a lot of money, they would buy it just for the novelty.

I am leaning toward a 52 “ HD projection Tobshiba. for about $2,000. The longer I wait the more that price is coming down.

Why do you wish you got the LCD? So far, I would never go LCD. I still think plasma is better.

42" is a good size, I still want to go bigger. I have bad eyes so I like the bigger screen.
LCD burn out faster than the plasma don't they? I wonder what the biggest LCD is? I am too lazy to google.

@Yourgod.

I think you have to be more then rich to be able to afford a tv like that. You would have to be rich many many times over. Not some idiot making a loan and paying interest. I would be happy with my 50"-52" HD projection. But to dream is good.

It is the other way around. Earlier Plasma models would lose half of their brightness after 20,000 hours of viewing. Newer Plasma models have bumped that up to between 30,000 and 60,000 hours. LCDs on the other hand are guaranteed at least 60,000 hours.

On the other hand all plasma displays have much better colors. That can't be denied. However I am still going for LCD, I can tell you guys that the LG LB1R 37" is sweet... Wink

Better contrast and detail in dark-coloured television or movie scenes, yes. Using a generic term such as "color", no.

On the other hand LCDs have a higher native resolution than Plasmas of similar size, which means more pixels on a screen. Also LCDs consume less power and are not receptible to screen burn ins.

However, in general I would say Plasmas would give you more bang for the buck.

Well with colors I mean that most plasmas gives more realistic colors as IMO most LCD's lacks the real fill in colors. Like somthing is missing and all colors are too bright.

When it comes to contrast plasmas wins without discussion.

Incorrect.

But without doubt, Plasmas give you the most "bang for the buck".

I've got a Home Theater setup... front projection onto a 106" screen. Not nearly as sharp as a plasma at any size, but significantly less than 70k, too.

I can't imagine the power draw of a 103" plasma.

INCORRECT? in case you didn't read my post I wrote "IMO" (In My Opinion) and how can my opinion be incorrect if that is what I think. I think all plasmas has better colors, atleast the ones I've seen.

Sorry, I didn't read that. But I am not talking about opinions, but facts.
