My Lady wants an i pod or something equivalent. Since I know nothing about these things I wanna ask you guys whats hot right now. It doesnt have to be big, 1 to 2 gigs is plenty. No need to play video, but other audio formats, like ogg are most welcome. What are the top options?

Well dont pick an Ipod its way to overpriced compared to other MP3 players. Try Creatives lineup, they have different kinds of MP3 players at a reasonable price. Also you dont have to use Itunes or any other 3rd party applications to store your files on them.

im pretty sure Ipod = no ogg.. I know for a fact that sony players dont support ogg, infact they rarely support MP3 Razz.. IPODs might be "in" in the sense that the world buys them for no good reason other than seeing miss p hilton with 7 of them (in different colours of course).. but you should probably look into the Creative / IRiver range for a good player.

Im such a noob at this that I didnt even know you need to use I-Tunes to put mp3z on your I-pod, or am I wrong about that too? Either way thx for suggestions, I will look at both the Creative and IRiver models.

You have to use either ITunes or a 3rd party plugin for another media player.. There are linux distro's and custom firmwares out that you can install onto an ipod improving its usability but the sound quality is still not quite as good as the creative counterparts.

the iAudio models look fairly promising, especially since some have multi codec support. The problem is I cant find a good place to get them, besides very few expensive items on ebay.
