Compatibility

Quote:
Some games are already compatible as you can see in the screenshots below, other features are still missing - here's a snipset from the release notes:

Hello to first no$gba version with NDS support. Parts are working fine, parts are under construction. The most important (missing) things to be aware of are:

Major Missing Features Sound, and WLAN emulation are still missing. Sound should be relative easy to implement. WLAN should be quite simple, too. I'd still need a second NDS console for testing communications. (...)

Things that work only with real NDS-BIOS-image The "decompression-with-callback" BIOS functions are currently working only if you do have a copy of the real BIOSes as ROM-images (see Installation and DS Xboo chapters). Encrypted ROM-images (with encrypted first 2Kbytes of the secure area) can be used only if the (full) NDS7 BIOS ROM-image is present (which contains the 1048h-byte decryption seed data).

Please keep in mind that, for legal reasons, we can't supply you with any BIOS images - so please make our lifes easier and don't ask for any.

NDS emulation has begun, although I have no news on how well it runs as yet.. more info later..

Taken from gbatemp:

Active Emulators:
DeSmuME - (Current Version 0.3.4 - 07/05/2006) - Fantastic compatibility makes this emulator one of the obvious leaders as it features near perfect touchscreen emulation, recently picked up by author of Yabause

NO$GBA - (Current Version 2.3 - 08/04/2006) - Compatibility and speed are excellent, requires BIOS files and encrypted ROMs to run, author claims sound and wireless will be easy to implement

Dualis - (Current Version R20.3 - 05/03/2006) - Runs demos and E3 demos but does not run any final commercial games at all according to the site, first to attempt sound emulation

Unofficial DeSmuME Builds:
Normmatt's DeSmuME Build - (Current Version 0.3.5 WIP 1 - 07/08/2006) - This build adds save state and configuration capabilities along with speed and compatibility

NDS's NDeSmuME Build - (Current Version 0.4.0 - 07/12/2006) - This build's primary concern is adding compatibility and speed

Huntercool's Optimized Build - (Current Version 0.3.3 - 07/04/2006) - This build optimized version 0.3.3 of the emulator, changes in compatibility are unknown

Maxhoov's NeeDS Build - (Current Version 0.0.1 - 06/20/2006) - This build is all in Chinese and adds speed and compatibility as well

Non-Freeware Emulators:
VGBA - (Current Version 3.0r - Date Unknown) - Just starting DS emulation, but for the price tag of $25 now (down from $35 before), NDS support is non-existent and GBA support is horrible

Discontinued Emulators:
iDeaS - (Current Version 1.0.0.8c - 03/11/2006) - This emulator is one of the better emulators featuring average compatibility comparatively, however, has been since discountinued

DSEmu - (Current Version 0.4.10 - 01/15/2006) - Doesn't run any commercial games but handles most of the demos very well, one of the veterans of the DS emulator group, however, it's assumed discontinued

Illegal Emulators:
Ensata - (Current Available Version 1.4d - 07/11/2006) - Written by Nintendo, this does not run final versions of any ROMS, but may eventually with a patch

I hope DS emulation will be so advanced that games are 100% playable when Final Fantasy III DS gets released in English.
