Well after I converted the german it worked fine for me for a looong time.
Unfortunately now I keep crashing.
Im talking to a guy called Capn Hornblower, a part of the main storyline that I must talk to after saving him from some pirates.
Everytime he finishes talking the game crashes with a bug rapport.
Anyone else have this issue and does anything it would be solved by upgrading to 1.2 ??

Ok...got your point.
I just do not want 2 different EMU softs installed in my rig....it messes up the registry and the uninstall process afterwards is a headache. I think Alc. and DT use the same SCSI interface and in some cases they start to f**ck each other up.
For example I couldn't uninstall the virtual drive any more and it kept showing up even after I uninstalled both DT and Alc. It remained illegal (ie I couln't mount or use it) and I couldnt remove it from the registry and the protections kept up whining about it. A clean install of XP was about to follow.

your avatar is freaking me out. and alcohol and dt347 use the same interface. not dt4. alcohol uses dt347 as a mounting device. it just installs under a different name so thats why it doesnt conflict with dt4

Yeah i have got global.res from english version 1.2.

Maybe revert to 1.1...I gave up and are now playing good ol 1.0 Ger-Eng etc etc. At least it works. Also whaiting for a 1.1 or 1.2 crack or fix now. Never thought it ould come to this

i tryed that conversion and deamon tool 3.47 and alcohol with vcdhide ( both 1.1 and 1.2 )
it always fails... guess it only works for some people.. the rest just have to wait for a working crack

This method works for me, however i forgot to patch my game first.
savegames do not seem to be compatible though.

Well, it's obvious some of us are having trouble getting this to run, I've stated this text problem three pages back. There must be some common link here, it doesn't make sense for it to work flawlessly on one machine and not another. It's not the copy protection, it's the global.res file I suspect. That's where all the order of the text displayed on screen must be stored.
I had the same problem when the German version first came out, the english global.res file (someone made it, forget who now) could be used from the demo version to make the entire game english, except with german speech and cutscenes. I did work it out and it ran flawlessly but I'll be damned if I can remember how.
Anyway, there could be a million possible reasons. Did you play the demo? Maybe some registry crap got left over and is screwing up the game. I don't know, I can't think of anything else right now. Too tired.

Also works with 1.2
just do 2 installs
1 reloaded patched with 1.2
1 german patched with 1.1 first then 1.2(both are on the german site)
then do the procdure below
the last part
is different though
the patch german 1.2 will already have a stings folder
just copy the english 1.2 global.red to the strings/DEU folder
and your good to go
one thing i noticed though, before when i had the german 1.0 to English 1.0 version going
there was a additional button when in a trading station cant recall what it was called but its gone again in 1.2
but it was at the bottom right corner

I just can't understand how come this has not been nuked yet... they tend to nuke things for the most stupid reasons, now here we have a complete mess of a crack and yet no nuke...

Are you sure about that? I doubt that's true because Alcohol installs the SPTD driver just like DT4 does. Old versions of Alcohol which were based on DT3.47 didn't install this driver.

A page or two back I stated the most likely source of the text errors after a couple hyperspace jumps. Its a particular file which I named.
I'm going to try and work on that and see if I can fix it, its all just text, and I think some copy/pasting would fix it up.

im still on version 1.9.5 build 3105 of alcohol. so i know nothing past that.

I used the Silentgate rls, which did u use?

Try mounting the mini-image it might be the crack, i passed this point already, using mini-image and update 1.2 and don't encounter one single prob atm.

After updating to 1.2 you don't need to overwrite anything except movies. You just create ENG subfolder in strings folder, copy global.res from english version there, copy voices from english folder directly to root of your to-be-english installation, and copy over the eng.xml folder. Then, in options you switch language from german to english and everything is working in english, audio included. However, after 2-or-so jumps, somehow locale file goes out of sync. Why is this happening is beyond me, but it leaps forward one record (but not everywhere - friends/enemies etc on target list for example stays correct.)
On the side note: hyperjumps aren't the only cause. Reloading save game over and over yields same results.

i cant even get the regular german version 1.1 or 1.2 to work
let alone convert stuff to english " not that i want to anyway.. the english voice acting sucks compared to the german one "

are you mounting the mini image or the regular iso. it wont work if you use the iso from the silentgate release. it also wont work if you try and mount it with dt4. i dont know about current versions of alcohol. but i use 1.9.5 3105 and it works fine with that and dt347, and vcdhide.

It might be with the global.res or it might not. My guess is that xml file that contains all the audio file information and includes things like length and size of file, isn't properly set to the english files. And as such, something screws up. I'm thinking the screwup with the audio thing leaks into the text thing.
Maybe I'm smoking though and totally off. Anyway its just an xml, and I think I can replace the radio stream voice parts, maybe that will work, maybe not. Actually, I just thought of a good way to test before screwing with it. I'll put the german audio back and see if it works then, if it does, that was the problem, the mismatch. If I still get the text corruption after a couple jumps, its definately not the audio mismatch to the xml.
Edit: Looks like I was totally off. Putting the german audio back in didn't fix it, so you were right, its gotta be something about that global.res
