Well before you guys tear each others heads off over what game has the best graphics blah blah, what i want to know is what kind of video card was used to render those SS's of FEAR at the beginning of this thread. I mean if its an X800 XT, on an athlon FX-53 with 1Gig of ram (or more), then im not that impressed, its just more of the same old Doom teasing's. And we all know now that Doom is just the newest gaming benchmark now and for a few years to come, just to judge the latest greatest cards now, and down the line. Now if those FEAR shots are using say an ATi 9700-9800 pro, or Nvidia equivalent, with a cpu of around 1.5G, then HELL yea im impressed. Who the fuck can afford an X800 XT and FX-53, or a 6800 ultra and 3.4EE (mix and match the components all you want, you still know what i mean ((top of the line shit))?

I wasnt all that impressed, especially the sudden hype that it was given in the beginning of the post. So if we are comparing future games, OMG, FEAR < UNREAL3 !!!

Oh and why did Skyline put engine in quotes seemingly implying that the doom 3 engine isnt really an engine. People please. Yes, we've established there are better graphics out there coming up than Doom 3, but as previously mentionned, Doom 3 is out now, and its graphics are absolutely fantastic, and the fact it can look so wonderful on a lower end machine just makes it a better, heres a zing, "engine". |

in my eyes, farcry is still a little bit better than doom3.Offcours the monsters in doom3 are looking amazing, but the suroundings in farcry are even better

Well, you can't really compare Far cry engine to Doom 3 engine.
While farcry engine focuss on outer doors, the doom engine is more inside doors.
Through all the doom game, you go outside 3 times and you don't really see much.

Who cares which game looks best? (well a lot of ppl obiously).
But the "official movie 5" video left me stunned, without a doubt it will be one of the greatest gaming experiences ever so far in the fsp genre.
 ... but even worse, it releases satan.

Anyway, Im looking at the screens more carefully with an objective view. While the modelling and rendering for the most part are strong, the textures are blurry and the bumpmapping seems weak. The animations for the most part look good, but not quite on par with the artistic animations in doom3. Seeing as though this game is a year off, there will be much better looking games, take a game that heavily modifies the Doom3 engine. Though modifying engines is sometimes frowned upon, lets remember Valve stole their first engine, and made half life look rather good compared to Quake 1.

Yeah, now that you mention it, bumpmapping does look kinda weak compared to Doom 3 or Far Cry, but if you look at the chopper you can see very sharp textures with very stron bumbmapping.

mmmh, i d wait for the final product. Monolith have always released games that werent forrunners in terms of graphics, but they are very good in making enjoyable games, so no matter how up to date the game will be visually, it more then likely will be a good and enjoyable game 
And dont forget that they also still have a year to make the game better looking

at least you can swim for miles in farcry 
It's still a long time until its released and hopefully it will be a great game. And hopefully the graphics aren't dated by then.
