I can say one thing. A good and properly calibrated RPTV, will have a much better picture detail than most of the DLPs, LCDs and plasmas out there.

btw. Once you get your HDTV visit this site for tips on how to set it up properly. You might even start saving for a ISF certified calibration. http://www.keohi.com/keohihdtv/index.htm

btw2. Wrong forum, should be in hardware.

Well the bulb last 2000-3000 hours (6 months) and cost 250 dollars so a little expensive. Though its worth it!

There are numerous providers here with 20+ HD channels Razz

I have used them a few times. My friend is a teacher and he took one home for the summer months and we played x-box. Loved it but I won't get one because I think it is too expensive.

Very Happy weee I know Very Happy

And well Pistolshrimp if you buy the eco-models and check the bulb price. Then it isnt that expensive. I gave 600 dollars for my Acer and the bulb isnt expensive (compared to other bulbs). Though its getting its motherboard replaced in germany atm Razz Rolling Eyes

Best Value for money vs quality is Plasma.

Best go for any set which supports 480p, 720p and 1020i, HDMI connection, 10,000:1 contrast ratio, pixel shift etc:

You can pick up 42" sets with this spec from as little £800.00 the big out of town supermarkets have real bargains going on at the mo such as Tesco. They come cheaper than most eBay offers, and you have the reasurance of knowing you can return the set if your not happy. I believe that very store is selling the Hyundai HPT 4260, which has the spec above for £799.00 deinately a bargain, and unlike there cars are considered good TV's in the rest of Europe, I read somewhere they share the same panel as the Pioneers. There selling last generation 42" Samsungs with this spec for under a grand!!!

I wouldn't go for LCD at the moment anything above 32" is either piss poor at this price or just very expensive. Bear in mind also that with only one service provider offering 720p then worring about 1080p is a bit pointless.

You may also regret 50" TV if your less then 8 feet away, trust me it just don't feel very nice. 6-8 feet 42" is perfect 8-10 feet 50" starts becomming bearable. You'll be lucky if you pick up the Sony for less than £1600 by the end of the auction, and for the money the new Sony Bravia V series is just the superior TV for this kind of investment. I'd say avoid both, and consider the Sony Bravia 'v' Pany P60, LCD Xengine or one of the cheeper but well specced Plasmas.

Meh, i use my a projector for my media room and so far im only at 900 hours. I have had it over a year. My bulbs cost 300ish, i have one on backup just incase. LCD projection TVs also have a bulb life and can be much more expensive than a projectors. IMO a good DLP/LCD projector is very cheap to run, and i would recomend them over any HDTV. For upstairs im going with a 50 inch Sony SXRD, well probably. Smile

@IpwnU

If you are implying that Real HD is only 1080p, well your still wrong Smile There are a handful of TVs out that support a Native display of 1080p (Very expensive, but you can buy them). But 720p is also considered a "true" HD resolution. 1080i on the other hand sucks, and i prefer a 720 progressive scanning signal over a 1080 interlaced.

I love this thread because I need a new TV.

The sound on my TV is going. Happened before, starts out loud and gets quieter and quieter. It is ok if I run the sound through the sterio system.

I want a 50 inch but everything else is undecided.

About the projector a few and my friends wanted to buy one and start like a open tv watching football restaurant/bar or something . Then a guy who knows the stuff told him how much the upkeep was and you gotta sell a lot of licker to maintain it.

then this is what you want to buy. Sony KDF-E50A10 50" Rear Projection Television

beats lcd and plasma, but is not a big ass projector either. a good compromise to a really good prize.

im running xbox360 and computer as well and it looks great! check it out.

That is what I am looking at, you got it. Very Happy I can't remember if it was sony I liked tho. I remember a big difference with detail of picture between a couple of different brands. I wrote them down but since lost the picture. The prices seem to be falling quite fast. I think this might be an October price. Then again after Christmas everything is slow so they put on the sales. (I don't do boxing day tho--- ever)
