Well theres nothing preventing you playing the backup online, other than the lack of servers or the fear of MS somehow tracking users.

And the release in Europe (where this rel is from) is on September 2nd.

What bothers me the most is that the publisher has NDA'd reviewers from posting their reviews until tuesday morning. Either the game is going to get rave reviews to bolster sales OR its going to get hammered so bad they dont want you to read reviews before cashing out.

Um..there are plenty of reviews already out and the consenses is 8.0. OXM gave it an 8.5, Game Trailers gave it an 8.0 also. There are more but that is just a sample.

Oh ok thanks. To me thats a great score considering the genre.. although I thought the Truecrime games were utter turds and they got as high as 9.7 scores. PFFF.

UPD: The performance on the final is still absolutely disgusting especially when driving fast. Constant stuttering and not a single moment without tearing even in the cutscenes.

I mean, I put myself through GTA3 on the PS2 and I'm not going to give Volition the same kind of slack, especially not in the year 2006, with x360 and when engines like Just Cause show us how it should be done (though again, the game sucks).

Nextgen is just a buzz word. Either slighty bad to terrible framerates or horrible loading times are gonna be pretty much the norm for a good while, I am guessing. Until the devs learn how to code for the seperate cores properly and/or stream gigs of data off of odd's without any hesitation that is..

Anyways tho, I just wanna know one thing...do cars dissapear really fast like in the demo? Like if you blow up a couple cars, then another one, the old one vanishes. That kinda bothered me cuz I like to admire my rampage. Same with the bodies? I'm hoping they optimized it at least where i can have the level of chaos I did in the gta games.

hmmm... I played the demo a lot, and I noticed that the cars stayed on the same position where I left them mission after mission... but maybe you are talking about blown-up cars?

Yep I was battling some cops in the final ver and the wrecks still disappear. And also, on the highway when you drive up a ramp and see a car going the other way (like a stretch hummer or a semi) that you'd like to have, when you turn around to chase it its no longer there even if the back end JUST went out of view for a second. It's really pathetic.

Also, I jack-knifed a semi+trailer infront of a fuel truck and caused a small pileup with explosions.. SLOOO MOOOOTIOON. So much for multicore physics calculations.

And when you shoot a driver the body disappears, so you dont get to enjoy it flopping around inside the car or fall out when you open the door. Poor choise again.

I'm still trying to forgive the POS performance but its really hard to do so. Luckily my healthy mistrust of Volition started with the crappy demo so I never expected it to improve as much as the menu-video would let us to believe.

To top it all off, the game crashed in the middle of a robbery mission where you have to put a box into the trunk of a car. It just stopped. My 360 has never crashed like that before in 6 months. Luckily no red lights when I reset it, just POS stability in the game.

I only get unloaded road when im going highspeed across a highway for a while but then it quickly loads up...

Even the popup wouldnt bother me if the game didnt feel like somebody ticking the pause button on gamepad 2 while driving.

I mean, if Halo2 had an engine this bad it would be on pause all the time in a wait-state while textures are being streamed. Hello Volition, this is not a PC, you can stream without affecting the framerate.

And in some locations the game just slows to a crawl not from streaming but from whats onscreen, and wont run better until you leave that location.

Pretty good review. I dunno, Im gonna reserve judgement till I get the real game. The reviews mention the framerate probs just in passing. I know with q4 reviewers were screaming foul because of it. So Ill just see if its just they have lower standards or its the media like someone mentioned or whatever else.

Anyways, rockstar isnt exactly known for their games running slick on any platform, even with a dated gfx engine(to put it kindly). So I dread seeing what a 'nextgen' gta game will run like, unless they fired every engine programmer they had and hired all new ones.

Yes people remember Rockstar mostly for the poor GTA-series performance on the PS2 but the xbox1 version of GTA3 is stellar in its performance and all-round improvements. The PC versions were all abysmal with look/performance ratio. No PC with the xbox1 specs could even dream of running PC GTA3 with same detail as the xbox1.

But, my whole point really is that SR just hopes to be what GTA3 was and Volition chose the hugely successful genre to make some big bucks. Hats off for managing to do even this well, but a big thumbs down for thinking THEY can get away with Rockstar-style performance.

When you set out to clone other people's work (which is exactly what they have done, people are already forgetting how unique and pioneering GTA3 actually was at the time), at least make sure people cant piss all over you for more reasons than necessary. Make your game a shining example of your technical talent if not your innovation. They pretty much failed.

I wish those of you that are posting your impressions would tell us if youre running it in SD or HD and if in HD, at what resolution... 720p, 1080i ?? I think the higher the HD resolution you are running the worse the performance may be. Perhaps someone could shed some light on this for the rest of us... wouldnt the 360 have to work twice as hard to output 1080i over a standard definition?

running at 720P on 9th gen pana 50" HD plasma. On the demo i tried it at 480P to see if it was better , still ran like shit Sad Atleast dead rising runs alright

Hmm..I run the demo at 1080i on a rear-projection tv. I have a projector that does 720p but right now its packed in a box, so stuck with 1080i for now. The tv is not widescreen, its 4:3 65" screen.

Anyways the only screen tearing and framerate issues I encounter are on the movies and when there is a shitload of destruction on screen. Otherwise runs pretty smooth. Of course, on my computer I am comfortable with about 25-30fps(I rather go 16x12 with AA than get a great fps).

720p on my PC monitor and it runs fine, don't notice any lag or bad framerate well not enough to say the game is ruined because it it. I like it and think they have done a good job in being a filler till GTA5 comes out next year

The only difference in this game that HD/SD makes is in the cutscenes. In the demo the intro cutscene runs best at 4:3 SD, but runs like crap at 16:9 SD and 16:9 HD (HD is always 16:9).

720p, SD, doesnt make a difference in this game. And neither should it. Any dev who makes their games on the assumption that "HD doesnt matter" should be hanged. All devs should target 720p and do the other two modes no better nor worse. This is not a PC, resolution shouldnt matter.

I knew we were in trouble when MS opened the HD era. I couldnt help thinking WTF will these lazy devs do with three resolutions when they cant even make a single one work properly (or even support 16:9) on last gen consoles. Luckily the crap dev -to- good dev ratio seems to be the same as before, the crap devs just keep getting crappier. What I mean is, devs with high work ethic and talent still polish their games while the talentless turds will continue to push out beta versions for 60 bucks.

Just tried Insurance Fraud missions today, I had fun for hours just making the guy ragdoll tumble outside the zone. Great game. Makes me hate them even more for not making it perfect.

sorry subander but the fps in this game just aint bothering me, sure occasionally it dips slightly below the average fps but only momentarily and not enough for it to affect the enjoyment. Look at Saints Row and Look at San Adnreas with its quite frankly shit player models and shit textures.

Sure this aint rockstar but I for one commend the fuck outta devs for
1)HIGH REZ MODELS not 1 finger and 3 finger clumps
2)including Havok ffs! and
3 ) including fucking MULTIPLAYER

really cant stress those three point enough.
