galactica is brilliant
and "firefly" is definately worth checking out aswell, while not so purely of the "starship genre"
series first and then the feature film "serenity", which ends the story
and anime series "cowboy bebop", which is quite similiar to firefly in setting

Firefly was a really great show, eps are not messed up, the show has no real ending just like Odyssey 5 because it was cancelled by Fox Sad

yes, the episodes were all messed up
fox was being an ass (AGAIN!) and aired them in a completely weirdass order, which totally wrecked the continuity of the series
here's the intended viewing order;
wikipedia wrote:
1. "Serenity"
2. "The Train Job"
3. "Bushwhacked"
4. "Shindig"
5. "Safe"
6. "Our Mrs. Reynolds"
7. "Jaynestown"
8. "Out of Gas"
9. "Ariel"
10. "War Stories"
11. "Trash"
12. "The Message"
13. "Heart of Gold"
14. "Objects in Space"

"15." the feature film "serenity"

fox aired "train job" first, which is one of the weakest episodes in the series
and the pilot somewhere in the middle, which is where the whole backstory is built up
i watched the first aired episode first when it aired and didn't bother cos it was an episode i would rate as weak for a first episode
pilots/first episodes usually recieve a lot of special attention to get the viewers familiar with the world and generally be a GOOD episode
starting at the middle of the series felt confusing and a weak episode to boot...
but it's a great series
it's a damn shame it got cancelled like it did

on galactica.. you did watch the miniseries first?

um... wow... i find it... alarming... that noone has suggested (read, ORDERED) you to watch babylon 5, the most epic and greatest sci fi show ever... in all honesty, its season 3 and 4 leave anything (even farscape which i love) in the dust.

ill admit you really do need patience though because its a complete 5 season story, not a bunch of individual episodes like most sci fi series... and season 1 has some truely shocking acting/dialogue and effects, but just wait till season 2 when things get good.

I just watched Babylon5 over the summer with a friend, it gets better everytime I watch it Very Happy It is probably a bit hard to get into if you have never heard of it, but once you do, it is very rewarding. A 5-year story arc with great acting and moments (Star Trek seems like robotic technotalk acting in comparison). Good CGI for a TV-show at that time, Babylon5 was sort of pioneering CGI in its early stage, I love the ship designs and the newtonian flight model.

I agree that season 3 and 4 are the best, because they contain the core ideas of the show, but I could never do without 1+2 and 5, they are also good in their own respects.

i just finished watching all the b5 movies, and i think they are all quite good, except river of souls is pure rubbish (its like a standard 45 minute filler episode stretched to a 90 minute tv movie...), and the legend of the rangers one, which while wasnt bad, gets -1000 points for having the most embarassingly stupid weapon system operated by the worst more rediculously talentless actress ever!!

Yeah I agree chiv, most of them are not so good. But if you are going to dwelve into the movies, you should watch "In The Beginning" or maybe "The Gathering".

kenny64, if you are looking to get into Babylon5, I would suggest you watch the episode "Parliament of Dreams", it is Episode5 from Season1. It is filled with with great characters and events, and some good humour. It also contains no spoilers for what will happen in later seasons.

Dark Sky? You mean Dark Skies, right? With Eric Close regarding aliens, Majestic, and stuff in the 40s. Too bad it was canceled after the first season.

I strongly recommend you to watch Star Trek DS9 Season 3/4 thru 7 even if you're not into Star Trek. In contrast to Voyager, TNG and the first 2 seasons of Enterprise, DS9 unfolds a tremendous story arc that starts with the discovery of the Dominion (season 3) which leads to an epic war that spans over the remaining 4 seasons. DS9 was way ahead of its time with its coherent storytelling (like Babylon 5 and new sf series, you can't just watch some random eps on TV from time to time). Its a dark and complex Star Trek, brilliantly acted with many recurring and elaborated characters....timeless.
