Yay, a demo, now we finally get to see if it is a real remake or not Smile

Settlers 2 is already good as it is so there is no need for a remake.

Sure we do, Settlers 2 has some problems running on WinXP, at least for some people Sad

Was just searching for this thread to post about the demo Very Happy Don't speak a word of german but will give this a go anyway. Is it going to have an english release as well?

The only thing I've heard is that they *might* release an english version of the game, but I guess it depends on sale numbers... lucky me I can understand German Smile

Well had a quick go on the demo and as far as I can tell it is very very close to the original. You can rotate the camera, zoom in and pan around as well. Can't wait for a proper release. I hope it gets more sales than the wank Settlers games they've been making since Settlers 3, looks like it will deserve it.

Gotta say im impressed to say the least! its almost exactly true to Settlers 2... even the "build icons" that can be enabled on the map are from the old game...the geologers say yeepiee when they find something still Razz

I know what you mean. I could manage to build a basic settlement just from memory of which buttons did what, its that similar to the original. Even though its probably 10 years since I played it, I instinctively pressed the space bar to get all the buildings up, and it still works Very Happy Can't wait for this!

Heyyy the demo also contains english files so you can play in english!!
Just go into path: data/language and rename catalog "de" to "gb" and "gb" to "de", then everything is in english!! Cool

They also release the original Settlers 2 with Networkgaming for WinXp in a special edition. Well then I don't need this remake.

Must have that one!

Amazing how good it still is, it still works except on some monitors it crashes and you get a black screen.

Set a lower resolution and use the harbor patch to play the best game ever made

Was just going to post the same... Smile

Why didn't they just include a language selector or something in the demo, most non-German Settlers fans didn't download this because of the "German only" release Confused

Anybody who's found a way to play for more than 90 minutes? Kinda annoying that the game ends just when I'm about to kick their ass Sad

Someone posted a link to this on some other forum:
http://rapidshare.de/files/25131214/S2DNG.zip (unpack to /bin/ library)

It's supposed to remove the 90-minutes limit (the timer just goes into negative instead of ending the game)
I haven't tried it yet, wont have time to do that before tomorrow
