Based on the thread in the console arena I thought it would be a good idea to see exactly how age can effect this sort of thing too. Just to clarify for those who didn't read the other topic...

Not too long ago I had made a thread asking your opinion whether it was time to get the 360. Many of u asked to wait till the good games came. But I had some money sitting and bought it last week. Frankly I am already bored. I tried pretty much every game that is there right now and except for TableTennis which I found mildly amusing, none of the games felt worth playing. I played Saints Row for 3 days straight and now I am tired off it, its novelty has worn off. Dead Rising was a flop from get-go. Campy Zombie themes is not my idea of fun. PGR3 felt like PGR2 redux.

Truth is the maximum fun I had was opening it up and flashing the damn firmware and to see a backup running on it!!!

Let me guess. You have played games all your life. You read about games daily, and you have filled your HD with dowloads. You seldom buy games, becaus you think 99% of them ain't worth it.

Welcome to the club. It isn't the X360, it's you getting tired of games. You seek the funfactor games once had, and have a hard time finding it.

The amount of games I look forward to dwindles each year. Some games I'll play all the way through and enjoy it (Prey. art of war, FEAR, C&C, etc) while others (Doom 3, for instance) I'll force myself to finish. Some games (quake 4, Rise and Fall of legends (I think) for example) I can't play for more than a few hours and get bored with the whole thing.

Truth is, I've got so many more things happening in my life that I just can't dedicate myself to playing games all the time. I consider myself a gamer and still play when I can, but a game has to really capture my attention from the get-go to hold my interest. I spend so much time on the computer for my job and when I get home sometimes the last thing I want to do is sit down for 3-4 more hours a night and play again.

I've been holding off on a 360 as I'm not a huge console fan anymore. There are some games I'll want to play but I think I'll wait for a price drop on the system. I'll find someone w/ a PS3 and let them foot the bill...

Well Im 27 next month and I would say Im in between finding and not finding the fun factor but that wasnt an option on the poll lol. Some things I find fun with and some things that were fun a year or two ago arent fun and I cant be bothered with them. Not going to give examples but I guess its just part of getting older!

May the NFOrce be with you always.

I don't really find that much fun in games that aren't multiplayer, and by that I mean sitting in a room with some friends, drinking, smoking a joint, and playing some super smash bros or hockey! Razz

im only saying this: dead rising.

this is the game that will bring me back to good ol game play. smashing thousands of zombies in a mall. with simple and adictive gameplay + cool cut scenes and...well zombies ffs, this will be a blast.

and like nouse said sportgames are fun in company. especially football games and yes hockeygames.

just go with the very best of games, that keeps the gameplay as #1 and everything should go fine. every game has to have the adictive factor in it. be it getting ULTRA kills in UT, or scoring a goal to net, or killing swarms of alians, or getting a perfect combo, or yeah and so on. if the game still delivers good feelings to the player then its still a good game. obviously every game wont deliver this and those are the game that kills peoples interest to play.

varies for me, on mood & the game. the wii is expected to be shitloads of fun and im having a great time playing starcraft again and mapping for war3, but cannot find the love in mmo's.

mutliplayer is definetly a must, i tend to cycle between games (cs/gw/sc mostly) whenever i feel like it.

Mostly I still find the fun factor (even though I just can't jump on to any game and play away as I could a few years ago).

But in the last time I have been going for MP games more and more. BF2 still running hot becuase whenever I play it I play with my clanmates and its very social and fun talking to them. Guess its more about the social factor there than the actual game factor.

F.E.A.R Combat however I play regardless if its with someone on vent(rilo) or if I play 'alone'.

Great SP games I still play and finish. If I have started a game and played it more then 2 hours I just gonna finish it. Simple as that... Very Happy

As for my x360 I play on it. Alot. Dead Rising mostly right now ofc as its great fun, easy to get into, no advanced controls... Just simple fun at its best.

However, as I said, I can't play games as I did a few years ago. I got almost any game I heard of that even seemed to bring the slightest interest into my brain and played away. I can't do that anymore... But I don't think its about the fun factor, I think its more about time since I have a job and I am not in school anymore. Getting older probably has it part too...

No I can't and I'm 26. No current games have that special something that I experienced when I was young. Remember Shadow of the Beast, Another World, even spectrum games used to dazzle me. Is it because we used our imaginations more?

I think it's age and the quantity of games available that make us spoilt. All I ever play now is COD2 and sports games. MP is still fun.

I'm 22 in a few days. I've been a PC gamer since age 9. I started with Sid Meir's Civilization for Windows (that game was fuggin hard at 9 mind you Very Happy). I never won, but had a fuckin blast and have been a hardcore gamer ever since.

That said, I find that every year I grow more and more discriminating on what I even bother to try, and what holds my intrest. Either its me getting picky or the games are getting shittier. I can count the number of games I've been satisified with in the last 2 years on one hand. The rest, just kinda meh.

Still, its kinda scaring me to be honest. I've been a gamer my entire life. What fuckin happens when the rush isn't there anymore? What the fuck am I supposed to do? Engage in a social life? Fuck that Very Happy Very Happy

Developers need to start hiring gamers instead of mathematicians and coders. They may know the tech aspects, but most can't even play their own game.

I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

Gaming was much more fun when i was young. I remember my parents buying me the Atari VCS 2600 system in the early 80s, it was so much fun, even if the games were simple and not good looking. I had a blast playing games like Pirates or the Ultima series on the C64 too.

But with a certain age come other obilgations wich leave less time for gaming, and with the flood of games these days it's just not so much fun anymore. It's like i've played and seen everything, the games from the 80s left room for improvements and innovations, but now it feels like everything has been done before.

In recent years i have only enjoyed playing a few games like the GTA series, Kotor and Mafia to name some.

Anyway, all you need is:

...can't find the pic now. Anyway, its much better than some insane tickets. I think the first one is 4km\t over the limit and that is 1600NOK.

Games were much better in the old times.
I remember when I were in the kindergarden (like age 5), i just couldn't wait to get back home and play Prince Of Persia (the first game - 2dimensions), or Test Drive 3 Razz.
Today i don't have that feeling.

Atari --- I remember that. Remember that. Asteroids, Breakout, There was that fly game where you shoot that wall in front. I didn’t have Atari but I had Genesis and it played the same games. I think it was called that. Ohh the good old days.

I had nintendo. We used to play Mario brothers for days on end. (Well I was lucky if I got a few turns, my sister wasn’t the sharing kind. Remember that coin room and you could rack up extra turns. I never finished it but she did. I remember duck hunt too. I still have it somewhere. Wonder if it is worth something. I think I had Zelda, ohh I forgot the other ones. I had one cartridge that had over 150 games on it. It was from Japan. My cousin was selling them and got into copyright trouble over it. He had to go to court and was facing jail time too. I think he had to pay a fine.

My favorite games were Pac Man, Pifall, Dig Dug and Pole Position. I hated games like Breakout and Pong to be honest, a friend of mine had extra controllers just to play Pong, he beat me in every game we played. I still have the console in the basement somewhere, and it's working, at least i hope so Wink

im 24 and have been playing games since a very very young age! i dont know exactly what age though Laughing
my older brother was a bit of a geek and he was always kind enough to share his comps/consoles with me!

been playing games on just about every system since pacman was first playable at home Exclamation

most games will last me 1-3 days and then im done with them, at one point i would go around in games doing everything possible and trying to find any secrets/easter eggs, now i just cant be bothred Laughing start > end > delete.

takes an mmo for me to have real fun while gaming these days. games really arent as good as they used to be though imo.

whatever happened to trying to beat a friends high score for weeks? or beating a friends laptime? it just doesnt seem to happen with todays kids.
graphics > gameplay

btw some games back then had more features than todays games do!

anyone remember all the management games? even the football ones were more complex than most the shit these days! and sensible soccer still has more features than alot of football games released today

No I can't and I'm above 21!
That´s whats happening to me...
I think we miss all the fun of a game by downloading and experiment every single game that comes out. I bought a psp two weeks ago along with ridge racer, and I was getting a great pleasure playing it. Just a few days ago I managed to downgrade to 1.50 firmware allowing me to try all the games that the system have. What is happening now is that everyday I try a different game without really caring about it.

Nowadays, the games are seen as an important entertaining option, very different from the old idea that games are for the kids.
And we all above 21, are "the first generation" of people that experienced that evolution and still cares about videogames, cuz we gave that importance from the very begining and growed using games as one of the best entertaining things to do. When we were young, any grown up would say that with time we would loose the interest in videogames... And maybe that is true, we just don´t want it to be. We still follow all the news and greatest titles but when we play them, it´s just not the same thing has it was...
Of course I like to play HL2 and some other good titles, but when I was younger it was just like was living inside the game. I miss that feeling Smile
That´s just my opinion... And I want that feeling back

For me, the only type of games that I can truly spend alot of time in are multiplayer games. It feels like if I cant talk to others or interact with others while gaming its just not enjoyable. I've lost the love of single player games, but thats mostly because my only fav genre, narrative deep RPG's, are non-existant lately.

I guess if i cant participate in a moving storyline, I want to create my own with other people around the world. RPG's like oblivion are just too stale story wise, and the last time I tried to play through an RTS singleplayer campaign I got to mission 2 and gave up from boredom.
