|
 |
I know its been pounded to death already but im too lazy to grind through all the threads here. I posted some in [sYn]'s thread but that hijack didnt really work, so here goes
First of all, ill just quote my questions from [sYn]'s thread.

Im in quite the same situation as you were a week ago sYn. Bought a 50 inch lcd projection tv yesterday and kind of want to get a 360 now Smile
I bought my modded ps, ps2 and xbox from a swedish "professional" mod-webpage called psxcare.com and im considering buying the 360 from that place as well. My choices are the following:
Xbox 360 Core XTREME - 300€
Xbox 360 Core XTREME DUAL FIRMWARE - 400€
Xbox 360 Premium XTREME - 450€
Xbox 360 Premium XTREME DUAL FIRMWARE - 550€
You can add 50€ to be guaranteed a Samsung-drive.
All of them have the xtreme-firmware installed and with the dual ones you can apparently swap between factory and modded firmware.
The big minus as i see is that you get a one year warranty from psxcare.com but the original Microsoft-warranty is void from the get go since it's modded.
So i guess the questions i have are:
-Is the dual firmware-switch necessary?
-Premium or Core?
-Buy the 360 today or wait half a year for better and maybe safer mods?
-Is the Samsung-drive worth 50€?
Im also considering buying a Pioneer 111D dvd-recorder as it is the recommended 360-backup recorder.
|
Anyways, i've quite understood that premium is the way to go, however is the dual firmware necessary? I mean what's the Live! situation? Say i actually buy a game, will Live! notice i have a flashed console?
Also is it hard to flash the firmware yourself? I've found premiums for 350€ which is quite cheap. 100€ cheaper than the one flashed by psxcare.com actually.
All answers appreciated

They are chargin 100 for a 10 minute job? wow its like taking your PC into pc world for a 'Health check' and getting charged 50 quid for a virus scan.
I am a complete and total noob-bucket when it comes to consoles and I managed to flash mine fine first time and ontop of that Ive only made 1 coaster outta a Verbatim DL dvd so I think Im doing alright.
couple of questions to ask yourself
Do you have a Dual Layer Dvd rw Drive?
Do you have a SATA capable Motherboard?
if yes to those questions then I suggest you follow a guide and do it yourself. Its quite intimidating at first (opening, attaching to your mobo etc etc) but it becomes clear very quickly and its mostly just copying commands into dos.
as crash once told me when I was worried

Its fine evilmonkey, a hardware mod is against the EULA but not illegal. I must say though, the hardest part of the whole process is taking the fucking thing apart, and thats pretty easy if you read the guides... I didn't and it took me an age lol.. lesson learnt!

True Dat!
The taking apart took me most of the afternoon as those microsoft blighters didnt want you in there! once you have it apart its fairly easy from then on.
Just tried Lego Star Wars 2 tonight, I must say me and my m8 were playing co-op and despite being in our late 20's we both had a bit of a chuckle and a laugh playing it, good stuff, and it just fits the 360 nicely, lookin wise and easy of control wise too.

Nup, its all built in. To stream music you need to install a small free app from the MS site that allows you to "share your folders".. for music, its an addon for XPMC.. the xbox is setup to handle both, its just the windows machine that needs the additional software.
These are some of the machines biggest strengths in my eyes, I *will* be installing MC edition soon.

Just out of curiosity if I decide to do the firmware mod would I still be able to play on LIVE? |
Well at the moment you can play on live with modded firmware and backup disks, but I highly doubt it'll be that way forever, MS probably wont fix this till after the holiday season anyway so just keep a backup of your real firmware and flash it back when the time comes.
I dont really have mine connected to live that much so the payoff for me is using the modded firmware, 10 disks cost like $50 and you'll burn $500 worth of games, to me that far out-weighs the ability to play on live.
Once MS releases a fix the hackers will release new firmware, so as long as your carefull and check forums you'll know when the update has arrived so you can flashback.
