Defcon.FINAL-PSYFER

So our previous release was a review copy, this is
the final with a few changes. Online key auth
has been removed so playing on official servers is
not possible, however Direct IP play works fine.
Enjoy!

Working fine for me. Did you install the final in the same folder as the review version? Because that gave me errors as well.

Regretting buying this early. Managed to get into 1 game after about 40 tries, then the server dropped as soon as the host started losing Sad

Introversion should have let us stresstest the online metaverse when the review copy was leaked. Now they look like fucking idiots with their pants down with all these lag issues

Superfun game and well worth the money!
If you are playing alone against the AI (in multiplayer you are distracted by chatting and laughing ;P ) you kinda get a really really rare wierd feeling..
Its like, you hear the sad and omnious music, you see the well known map of the world, and all the nukes slowly heading torwards their target, including your own country.

And you just, i dunno, i just got this strange feeling..
Like a mix of sadness, actual true and honest fear due to the potential realism of the situation, and a feeling as if something, the entire world, was about to end in a sad mentally retarded struggle for survival by means of mutual destruction.
A war spun so far out of control that all hope is lost and the only single thing that remains in the hearts of the commanders is simple primal frustration and aggression, gone beyond all sanity and reason..
Everybody is just on a rampage, a mindless rage which ultimately ends in a long quiet nuclear winter where its all over, its too late to take up reason and civilized behavior. Because all is lost already :S

Yeah im prolly (no shit) just reading too much into this Laughing Laughing , but thats the feeling i got, a feeling ive never ever gotten from a game before.

aye
loving it
for those who love deathcounts in the millions, and feel annoyed by the pussy narration of most nuclear, and all hiroshima/etc documentaries/films;

trinity & beyond - a visually amazing documentary on the history of nuclear testing.. probably the most awesome documentary ever made by man - borderline nuclear-fetish pornography
http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0114728/
by dawn's early light - a technically fairly realistic film about all out global nuclear war
http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0099197/
also of interrest might be the rest of peter kuran's nuclear documentaries - while trinity & beyond is clearly the sharpest diamond of the bunch, focusing simply on beauty and oompf, the rest are still great in their information value
http://us.imdb.com/name/nm0475571/
and the british nuclear attack docudrama "threads", which i personally found a bit dragging, but was quite depressing, which is always good
http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0090163/
and the docudrama "war games", which was banned immediately when it was made in the sixties, and released only much later (not that it's that gruesome, but it is disturbing in it's matter-of-fact delivery still today)
http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0059894/

and then there's ofcourse "wargames"
this should be obvious already as it's the main inspiration for the game
a hacker accidentally starts a nuclear attack simulation and almost causes a real war.. - while it does not feature any actual nuclear warfare, it is still a nerd classic
http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0086567/
