Knowing when to be nice and when to be assertive is the key. Nice guys finish last only if they are nice when it isn't appropriate.

Bullshit!
This nice fellow approached me today and asked for a looney. I gave him four quarters to hold then i checked my pockets for a looney. He was pleasant enough and waited. He didn't walk away. After I got the looney I put it in his hand and he wanted to give me the quarters. I told him to keep it and he said thanks. It was nice. 
Also on the TTC this person didn't have a ticket and I gave one away
Being nice to people is nice. Holding doors open.
I hate it the worst, holding doors open, people feel they have to rush. I always tell them they don't have to run but they're in the middle of it and they just don't want to stop. And I feel awful then. You know. Really rotten that I made them run. 
What I love the most is giving things away. Or just making people smile.
It warms you up inside. Sometimes they can't appreciate it. And it's bad. But it doesn't bother me. Not everyone is... well... well versed in niceness. I don't think I am. I force myself being pleasant to people. I think some can see it. But I don't care. People sneeze I say bless you. When they cough I say robotussen and they smile a silly smile and it cheers them up. I love it. I love it when people are happy.
Why would you say it sucks being nice to people? I don't think it sucks. I find it rather wonderful.

What's wrong with finishing last?
Isn't it an awfully nice feeling to let people get their way? To let them feel satisfied? I mean it makes me extremely happy / satisfied that such things occur. If people have to use you to be happy, then why shouldn't they?

It's figurative. Being inappropriately nice might mean you don't finish at all.

Spoiling friends is a rather awful thing to do. I often hate myself for it. But I simply cannot put my self in my shoes when I'm standing in front of a frown that I've caused. I hate saying no. Sometimes, when their needs exceed my potential, a no is definitive. Sometimes I feel it’d be easier that everyone you knew was a complete stranger. That’s rather cruel to say. So you can do things for them and not worry about them. With friends you constantly worry. The other day I had to balance two friends. I chose one over the other and I felt really lousy. But today I found out that my other friend, whom I’ve let down, actually didn’t need me. It was a total relief on my part. Maybe that’s why I couldn’t’ve slept last night. Conscience kept me up. I ended up working on stuff. Could’ve dreamt a beautiful dream but I didn’t.
Anyway. If you do a lot of nice deeds, people will expect nice deeds of you. And if you say no, they’ll think of you as some cruel animal. But it’s their opinion of you, not yours of them. It will be on them that they’ve thought of you as someone who’s rotten and lousy. Don’t you worry. People like that are everywhere. They need someone to look after them. It can feel lousy being used. And it can feel worse when you say no. But, look at it this way, at least you’re there for them when you can. Even though they can’t appreciate all you’ve done, you’re still there for them. You’re the better person. You’re the nicer person. You shouldn’t care what others think of you. Only what you think of yourself. You may feel disappointed you’ve let someone down, but you’re only human.
If they can't see that. Then they'll never see that. And blind people need help the most

A girl friend of mine. She is in councelling so I am suppose to be this supportive friend. The more councelling she gets she becomes more selfish, rude, bossy and just consuming. She broke the fucking sauna because she fucking dumps water (and this time eucliptus oil) over the electrical unit because she thinks the temp gage is under the rocks. (it is up the wall but I don't tell her that) Someone had a athma attack. I said "that was you, you know, that broke the sauna" Her response is "I have no guilt" But now she is pissed. Then I didn't bring enough shampoo which she uses every day. I wash my hair at home so I don't use it very often. Her response was "You are such a fucking >>> insert slur for cheepness<<<"
I drive her grocery shopping because she doesn't drive, Anyway we are at the check out stand and she throws deoderant into my pile and says her son is outta deoderant and she can't afford it. (Bullshit, eats out everyday and smokes 2-3 packs a day).
Anyway I bought it for him. I am not going to let the kid go around stinking. Thats what I find hard. If her son really needs something yea of course I help but I shouldn't be expected to, basically because she chooses to spend her money on herself.
Then she stole a package of cheese buns sticks and I questioned her about it. I am poor, this is survival you know. Fuck, she just dropped $150 at the Gap that day. 2 pairs of pants, $40 belt. Survival uhhh No. It is called being scum.
My cousin (the one that I lost) wife was exactly the same way with the councelling. It is like these shrinks give them permission to be lazy, All she did was sleep, eat and read. Turned into a completly useless person.

People like that need responsible friends.
They need devoted friends. I would never leave a person like that in the cold. Even if they stole from me.

Spoiling friends IS an awful thing to do. I think I just feel guilt because I have more than her. Well a house anyway but I pay for that but I don’t really spend a lot of money. I don’t need to have 50 pairs of shoes, and a hundred of different outfits. My bathing suit is from 2 different suits, LOL (it matches) I make due with what I have and I am content. (but I have access to some cool perks so that is a bonus)

Next time she calls me that name I will leave her there. I think I was in shock or something. It was a really ignorant thing to say. She used to be fun and she had pride. If she calls tomorrow, I am going to confront her in person. I know when I do she is just going to pull the “You are just jealous because I look soo good and everybody wants me bullshit (she has a huge gut, it is like a tire, a big one) And I can’t handle it that she is so enlightened because she goes to healing classes. My ass is more enlightened than her, and that isn’t even where my brain is.
It is sad, I see so much potential in her son. He’s not like her. I feel bad for the guy it must be so hard on him to have this nut for a mother, Lesbian one day, and fucking this new guy the next. I am sure he can hear it. Mom’s too cheep to buy deodorant, won’t cook dinner because she has asthma and is too tired. He will be moving out soon I bet,

I can see you walking on a street when a bum approaches you. You're going to spit in his face and keep walking. He should be fucking honored that you at least spat on him. Right? God. A human life is still a human life. It may have a rotten soul, but it's still worth caring over.

In my world, I’m always number 2. I don’t care about my self. I care more about others. I don’t care if I’m a doormat. I don’t care if people use me. I can fend for myself if I have to. I choose not to. Some people are really miserable and they need help. Even if they use you to get that help.
I don’t want a big expensive house with three cars and a rolex hidden away in the safe.
What kind of a life is that? It sounds awfully boring to me.
Your perfect life is very different than mine. I’m quite happy with my life even if I’ve been stepped on hundreds of times.
