discworld, as you have most probably noticed I never said FarCry wasn't a good game, in fact I loved the game and still occasionaly play it with friends at the office. What I said, and which you did not read correctly thus the reason why you are still boring me, is that I dislike Crytek for claiming something they do not bring. I also said that I basically hate all developers who claim their game will revolutionize the world while it is in fact just another game within the same commonly known genres. You do have a fanboyism problem for I never said anything bad about FarCry and simply stated that is was just another game. Dark Messiah is not an RPG. Portal brings a new optic on the FPS genre and that is something new. I never said the common FPS is no good I simply dislike developers who claim their game will change the world while it is simply a game with some improvements compared to others. Your problem lies in the fact that you were looking to protect FarCry and by the same means get some arguing going thus making you misread my statements.
fissesvin and zomglar, I couldn't agree more

Hate? I don't really hate any company for its game development. Definitely not EA; while it's a perfect example of everything that's wrong with the industry today, it still makes plenty of games of reasonable quality. I would say Acclaim, but isn't it dead now?
If we were talking about the most overrated game developer, on the other hand, I wouldn't hesitate to nominate Blizzard. Starcraft is the only game that company has made since its SNES days that's even come close to meriting all of the hype and fanboyism that it gets.

ok ok i had my fun...
I know that every developer says this: OMGF its new.. TOTALY NEW (yes i have to use caps sry) and when it comes out ... hm lets c it has some interesting new things. Its shit loads of fun and its really nice... but WTF its not that new.
But you have to say that FarCry was one of the first FPS that had the freedom to move on a really huge map compared the small maps other fps have. And the AI was good (usually AI in fps = shit). And the use of cars, boats etc where nice. And for most of all: It all worked well. The driving was good. The shooting was fun and good. And the difficult level was great. And there where near 0 bugs in the game that was released (had 0 % problems with it on that hardware that was available @ that time)
and Dark Messiah is RPG in FPS point of view... Even Deus Ex was in some point RPG. You play a character who has skill points and your gaming experience will change the way you use your skill points.
Dark Messiah is not pure FPS. FPS games dont have skill points and you cant choose how your character develops.
Or else Gothic 3 and Oblivion would be fps to and thats just wrong.
And if you are looking something revolutionary then you have to ask yourself: What is revolutionary ?
You cant turn every game into something new. Only thing that you can to is to add realism and open ended worlds. You have to have some scripted game play or else you will never finish the game. Like take a game that takes place in the 21 century and you are a government spy or smt like that. You cant add anything unreal to the game because it will be 100% crap (imagine 21 century with portals and shit). Theres the point of reality and futuristic game.
But new game play modes are hopefully coming. Some developers are making good stuff but it takes time. And others just make money by releasing crap and its only possible because some idiots waste their money on that shit.

I voted EA.
Why ? Look at all 07 sports, Godfather and probably NFS: Carbon as well ... They are all crap !
Sports are exactly the same as 06 ones ( it was always like that, but this year it's too obvious ),
Godfather was rubbish clone of GTA and NFS: Carbon is just Most Wanted in the night and with different dumb model in intro video. I so hope that Test Drive Unlimited will be great and will kick NFS's ass. Wake up EA !!!

demonson360, EA did not develop most of the game you showed as example.
In my point of view, the one good thing EA is completing is Army of Two.
discworld, I agree with you although an RPG game cannot be defined by simple skill points. It could be a nice addition to an FPS. Just to make things even, I will call Dark Messiah an hybrid between an FPS and a RPG. Oblivion and Gothic 3 are definately RPG games though.
The reason why I'm saying that is because those skill points could be replaced with money so when you get enough money you can buy yourself a skill which is in fact a new type of weapon which all in all is the same way Counter-Strike: Source works.
Also, FarCry was well done and well built and brought many improvements to the FPS genre mostly with AI yet it did not settle as a corner stone. Half-Life 2 on the other hand brought physics and kept everything else to the standard and is the game that influenced all games. Even though physics existed before HL2, the HL2 team are the guys that put physics on the priority map. I surely don't hate Valve like others do for the reason that with HL2 and Steam they brought something new to the gamers, they brought physics, an online delivery system and mostly a step off for game developers. Today, anyone can buy HL2 and start developing its own game. This is not new and has been done countless times yet what is new is that you can publish your game all by yourself without the need for a publisher. Valve helped the gaming world by opening it to anyone skilled enough.
