Sometimes when i do stuff and even when i idle my hard drive is making some sound like its shutting down and starting again. Am my drive dying ? When i enter the hard drive after the sound my system crashes. When i restart it works fine again until it crashes again.
Please help. Tnx

I should recommend to back-up the files that are onit. Format it, and see if you got rma onit
I had the same problem with an hd. Eventualy bought a new one ;p

Is the drive set to spin down for power save?
you might want to check your power saving settings in your BIOS and windows (in screen saver-monitor power. god only knows why the setting is hidden in there)
I have 2 drives, and one shuts down if it's not been used for a specified length of time. It always spins up again though when needed.

thnx for the answears. I dont have any space to backup anything :/ its just old stuff anyway.
I've never seen an internal hdd set itself to power saving mode :/ I have had this hdd for many years. My external hdd on the other hand (maxtor 200gb) sets itself to power saving mode. Its freaking anoying
