I think its not a BUG you have to learn how to USE the benefits of the armor, so that are Light, Meduim and Heavy like in the Oblivion.

Im not sure but there are Trainers, that will train you in this im Only lvl 12 yet

I think you may be on to something. It's right there under "Teach me something about Ancient Magic." Of course that doesn't really make any sense whatsoever, but...

Nope, that skill is supposed to double the effective armor of robes only.

Sorry for bringing up this old thread, but is this game worth playing?

At the time I didn´t have a machine to run it, almost no one else had with all the bugs and bad optimization it had...

I love rpg´s like oblivion, fallout 3 and mass effect.

I´m not expecting playing a game with such high quality as those, but wanted to know if it´s a good experience Wink

the bad optimization is the smallest problem, it's the glitches and bugs (sometims even quest-breaking) that bog the game down, be sure to install the massive fanmade patch.

nevertheless, it's a good game, but nowhere near as polished like the 3 rpgs you mentioned.
if you don't mind outdated gfx, play gothic 1+2 first - both are excellent games.

I haven't been able to properly play that bug-ridden shit that Piranha Bugs unleashed on the world. I'm waiting for the community patch 1.7 to come out (2 months at most) and I'll give the game one final try.

Damn, I thought it was a lot better by now... I´ll give it a try though, with 1.6 version

EDIT: About gothic 1 and 2, don´t know if I feel like playing such old games...
It´s another thing when you´re repeating the experience.
Like deus ex, it´s a game that I don´t mind playing even though the graphics are totally outdated

Gothic 1 was really well made, had a couple of bugs that were sorted out after a few patches and there's quite a few modifications available now as well.

G2 got pretty good after the Night of the Raven expansion/patch and it's bigger than G1.

Gothic 3 works pretty good with the 1.6 patch though the 1.7 update should be awesome based on the details released so far.
(It'll be the final update so the team is taking their time making sure everything works as intended.)

Expansion for G3 didn't work all that well but it's playable with the latest patch though very linear as doing things out of order can bug the game and thus block the story from continuing, somewhat short as well.

Ofcourse compared to G3 the previous Gothic titles are very difficult and slower paced, controls take some time to get used to as well but works pretty well once you learn the basics.

While the latest CP patch has made it technically much better than the vanilla version, the game just lacks core gameplay elements Gothic 2 had. They tried to go all epic, trying to compete with Oblivion, but like Oblivion it lost alot of soul. It is likeable, but only if you expect nothing like Gothic 2.

PS. if you haven't played Gothioc 2 yet you should try that one. Even though it is technically outdated, it's still far superior to Gothic 3 in gameplay.

Just saw at Jowood's site that Gothic 3 (and the expansion) has multiplayer ?!?

What kind of multiplayer could this wreck of a good game have ? Some kind of LAN/coop ? Confused

yeah, i tried to hang in there too.

after playing for two hours and dying because i accidentally attacked a until-then-friendly npc and finding out there's no autosave, i took a 2 weeks break from it, to give myself time to forget how pissed off i was. but after playing for a few more hours, without knowing how to get to my quest location, without a fucking marker on the map, without anything, i gave up. it was as much fun as getting lost in the forest and walking around in circles for a day, while you got more and more bored.

Countdown to community patch version 1.70 - seems it'll be the last update so the changelog is pretty big, can't read much of what's written as it's in German though.

EDIT: Or I could just have checked the English forums directly.

It's a downside with the game engine and probably also it's savegame format (Scripts and such are probably contained in it thus causing this), could probably be changed with some work but then you would need to start over anyway because of those changes.

Haven't played G3 at all since the 1.70 patch was announced to be near completion which was a while ago since it's taken quite a bit of time for this patch to be completed but that's understandable seeing just how much they've managed to change and fix.

This sounds very VERY interesting, can't wait for the patch now. Smile

Forget framerate issues even on Crysis-eating PCs.

Forget quest-killing bugs.

Forget instability and constant crashes.

... the single worst bug this game ever suffered from was stun-lock, aka "Super Boars of Insta-Death" Rolling Eyes God that was fucking annoying.

... still, I loved the game! *laughs* Loved and still do. Gonna wait for 1.70 and then reinstall in anticipation of the upcoming expansion AND for Gothic 4.

Personal opinion, really, though I say definitely worth checking out. Aside from the bugs and glitches, it's a solid RPG and should give you quite a few hours hacking'n'slashing fun Smile

official patch is required before to apply the community patch?
