i've been lurking on here the past two weeks as i've been contemplating buying a nds or a psp. my rents are going to canada and i am in a dilemma as to which to get. i'm somewhat afraid of getting a system thats going to die out or something thats not going to suit me. i'm 22 so obviously no kids games.
basically i'm asking if a new store bought psp will be able to run isos and such easily. and as people who have the systems, what has a better selection of games?
i'm with deelix on this one. tried a couple of DS games and none of them really gave me the feeling i needed. New Super Mario Bros. bored me after 2 levels, and the same goes with mario kart. i don't even care for games like animal crossing or nintendogs.
depends on what you want. if you want metal gear, gta, go with the psp
if you like mario in football, golf, karting, fighting, basketball or anything else. go for the DS.
hmmm... I'm not sure I agree with deelix and ThOMa2 here.
This is not an easy choice.
Let me give you a + / - list, I own both systems:
*PSP*
+ No extra cost to run homebrew/iso other than a lager Pro DUO mem card.
+ The PSP screen and graphics are awesome.
+ There are many good games out for PSP now.
- the controlls doesn't feel comfortably (especially the shoulderbuttons) for big hands.
- You need to read up on a lot of stuff before downgrading, installing DevHook and so on.
- It's expensive.
- Battery lasts about 2-3 hours ingame.
- games take a lot of space
*NDS*
+ Long battery life.
+ Touchscreen!
+ Games are small in size
+ Good controlls
+ MANY good games (Mostly RPGs, puzzles and platforms)
+ Cheaper than the PSP
- The graphics ain't that good
- You need to buy extra stuff to run homebrew/isos
- Many games are aimed for a ynger group.
yeah supino the real draw here is that the nds has a lot of games aimed at a younger crowd and i can only play zelda and mario for so long until i get bored.
ppppfffffftttt 1.5 is way old now ... You want Dark Alex's 2.71 SE B3 Firmware (Its 2.71 but with the homebrew capabilities of 1.5 built in and a nice ISO launcher )
George W Bush -
'...more and more of our imports are coming from overseas.'
I would also advise you to go for the PSP.
At first I thought it was a mistake buying one, but now I just watch all my series on it while I am underway, that leaves me so much more time at home.
And there is loads of games nowadays, nearly too much IMO.
But I have to agree that it feels quite uncomfortable if you have big hands, especially the analog stick can hurt your thumb after a while...
Your loss. No Yoshi's Island 2, new super mario brothers, or any number of near perfect scoring games for you. The only game for the PSP that I actually enjoy playing, and is good grab and go game is that game with that blob thing you tilt around the world.
nah i'm not a big fan of castlevania at all. anyways i got a hold of a ds and it only confirmed my choice, it reminded me too much of the gb advance, which is eons old.
in any case, i've made my mind, thanks for the input
I was in same dilema...I like GTA , but on the other hand I love Castlevania and GBA games , so I just spend a shitload of money and bought PSP 1.50 fw. + 2 gb Sandisk card and NDS + M3 SD + 2 gb SD card..and I am broke now till next paycheck..
As far as downgrading or install custom firmwares, your boned. But there are ways to run homebrew and other goodies on the firmware you are on, so don't despair too much .. You will need to do some research on getting homebrew and devhook to work on 2.71 firmware (which is the firmware of choice for those who can't downgrade, I believe..)..
http://www.dark-alex.org/ - has the loaders and such, none of which have all of the files required..
Q: My PSP is a TA-082 with the 2.71 (or lower) firmware, can I run homebrew?
A: Yes, 2.5-2.6 can use eloader via the GTA gamesave exploit or via the TIFF exploit. 2.71 can run 2.x homebrew via HEN C or eloader (2.71 version). (add link)
Q: My PSP is a TA-082 with the 2.71 (or lower) firmware, can I run backup games (ISO)?
A: Yes, if you are at the 2.71 firmware (if not upgrade to 2.71) then you can use a modified version of DevHook made by Dark_AleX that works with 2.71.
- This should show you what to do, you will need to upgrade to 2.71 first though.
DO NOT BLAME ME IF IT FUCKS UP! RESEARCH ALL OF THE INFORMATION ABOVE YOURSELF TO BE SURE BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING!!!!
okay so i got some homebrew working (quake2) and i'm downloading wipeout and locoroco
when i get them i just put them in the game folder and run them? or do i need to fiddle with devhook?
Put them in the ISO folder, you may want to also think about compressing them, there are a couple of applications out to do this but the process uses PSP specific (or rather, devhook specific) compression types.. Try searching for CSO compressors..
Once in the ISO folder, start devhook and load up the specified game.. some games need settings changing, but most will run fine on default values..
