It's hardly what i'd call better, have you even played it?
The story is slightly more integrated, but the story was never that good to begin with, just the usual terrorists vs the world crap. Plus they miss out on probably the best mission in any splinter cell ever. |
fuck up story line + Pixel shader 3.0 + made in china + 3h play time Vs the hole story line , no holes in it + longer missions + more splinter cell climate + Gfx engine of Chaos Theory + made by the real authors , not some china imitation with fancy gfx
don`t know you but i allways love the gameplay more then that eye candy Gfx |
I have played it for both the old Xbox and the 360, and their really isn't much between the two when taken as a whole. Just because the PC version is borked, doesn't mean the 360 version is too. The missions arn't longer at all, it just has a better/longer tutorial. But it has far less enemies per level, you can kill them all easily if you want. Thats far more difficult on the next-gen version. All the missions are the same too, all at night, theres no variety. It's exactly the same as the previous splinter cell games it just doesn't feel like a sequal. I enjoyed the large variety in the 360 version.
But the hud is definitey better in the original Xbox version, with the light and sound meter and the multiplayer is much better.
The storyline just isn't a big deal. The story has never been the strong point of the splinter cell games and it still isn't, it's fairly generic actually. Maybe if they'd missed out parts of an epic final fantasy story you'd have justification to bitch.
But forgive me if I don't take the word of mister "rush through every game because I have no life' very seriously when it comes to length. 3 hours is a ridiculous time, don't make up bullshit figure to strengthen your argument. Maybe you rush through games but the average player doesn't.
Both versions have their merits. Just because you're jaded because it runs shit on your PC don't try to make it seem like this version is crap and the previous-gen version is far superior. If that was the case it would be reflected in review scores.

Splinter Cell Double Agent (DVD9 to 2 DVD5)
1) Create 2 Temp folders on your hardrive.
Name these folders Disk1 and Disk2. These will be the Labels (Names) of our DVDs.
DVD1
2) Copy the Disk1, Disk2, Disk3, Disk4, Disk5 and the Disk6 folders, the Media and the Support folders plus all the files on the Root of the original DVD to the Temp folder named Disk1
DVD2
3) Copy the Disk7, Disk8, Disk9, Disk10, Disk11and the Disk12 folders, the Media and the Support folders, plus all the files on the Root of the original DVD but NOT the SCDAAutoRun.exe and the Autorun.inf files to the Temp folder named Disk2.
4) Create another folder/s for any Updates, Serial, Patches and or Cracks etc.
(Create these folders in the Disk 2 folder.)
NOTE: Name this/these folder/s whatever you want.
5) Burn the contents of the Disk1 folder to a DVD5 with the Label: Disk1
6) Burn the contents of the Disk2 folder to a DVD5 with the Label: Disk2
NOTE: Game installer will ask for Disk7 half way thru installation so insert DVD2 and the installation will continue.
enjoy! |
Thanks, but if you can figure out how to rip the dvd9 to a dvd5 that would be even better

For the users that were claiming that the game doesn't look that good as it does on the screenshots, that is because these extra graphics require an Ageia Physics Card.

Please explain, how does PysX card make the game look like it does in the first screenshot. Maybe the card somehow upgrades the video card to DX11?

Eh, I don't think so. Even though the original intention was to make PC-SCDA an XBox clone (without the extra story content), it was still going to be developer by Ubi Shanghai. So the end product would have been even worse.
[EDIT] OMG, it just occured to me: What if this beta status was intentional to punish PC gamers? Ubi was indeed forced to make the PC version as close as possible to the X360 version by some angry threatning forum posters. Maybe this is their way to say "next time stfu or die"?

theres no Myst IV on cd you moron.
Quote: | Myst IV is the first game for PC released exclusively on a DVD-ROM format: a multiple CD-ROM version was not made. While previous games have been released on DVD-ROM, this was usually after the release of a CD-ROM version, with the DVD-ROM reprints only made in very low numbers. In contrast, the makers of Myst IV hope that their use of the DVD will encourage other developers to choose this format, similar to how the original Myst was released exclusively on CD-ROM (at a time when most games were also released on multiple floppy disks) and encouraged other developers to utilize the format. If a CD-ROM version of the game was released, however, it would take up to twelve CDs. |
Quote: | JA - Do you think that Myst IV being DVD only will negatively affect sales?
G. Lord - Our research shows that using a CD format would have simply ruined the gameplay experience for Myst IV Revelation – swapping up to 12 CDs during gameplay. Last year, Ubisoft released the Myst 10th Anniversary DVD Edition and the number of support calls were extremely low as most computers now come with a DVD drive; DVD is the way of the future just like CD was when the original Myst title launched. |

That pic you posted, the SP one, it has dept-of-field effect, that wasn't present in the retail SP. The effect however was there in MP. The shadows in the second pic are just a blurred texture, not true shadows.
About jagged shadows, SHADOW MAPS=JAGGED SHADOWS! Take it as a fact. The bigger the shadow maps, the better the shadows look, the worse the PC performes. That's why Doom3 and FEAR shadows are not jagged, and SC's are. The only positive thing I can say about shadow maps is various effects can be applied to them (i.e. "soft" shadows).

Eliz, the 4.5-4.6 drivers had a bug that caused PT shadows to be non-existant. Play it that way...
