Those N-versions are the European versions stripped of WMP and all that crap, or what?

Isn't there really only four usable versions of Vista? Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, and Ultimate?

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/editions/default.mspx

Looks like Ultimate is overrated. Home Premium is the best version for desktop users imo.

EDIT: Nevermind about the Starter edition, it looks like it will be for those poor African countries Laughing

I tried this out in a VM & it still expects you activate within 30 days, so dont bother throwing it on your main pc lest yer gonna get a legit serial/WGA gets properly cracked.

I got a worse problem.
I want to install it from DVD on my XP, as an update.
But i get stuch at the window where you select the version.
I select ULTIMATE, I click on "next" and nothin happens.
The installer freezes and thats it. no disk activity, just some CPU usage from the installer.
Anyone got any idea?
Can I upgrade when I boot from CD?? maybe thats the problem?
I want to upgrade, don't wanna make a fresh install coz I'll be getting the Polish version anyway so then I'll make a fresh install, I just wanna try it out now.

EDIT: maybe it takes so long and I'm just not patient enough??

EDIT 2: Haha, thought so, sorry guys, it really just took like 10-15mins on my machine to load the next screen. I think it had a hard time examining my XP coz it's a little overloaded with software and stuff Smile

I installed ultimate edition to 48% then it tells me that its corrupt or missing files. I had it mounted with Alcohol 120%. Let me know if anyone has got around that.

Hi, new to the forum (and site) but looking round it looks like a good place to chat and such. Anyway i found the 'Microsoft.Windows.Vista.Final-BillGates' release which is 2.6gb (approx) and there is no activation crack or anything as such at the moment. But i found another release by Team CYGiSO? Its 3.5GB and claims to be Vista Ultimate RTM...... with a "Corp" key? See spoiler for NFO.... I have not downloaded the entire thing just the NFO file to see what it said... i will download it all and see i guess.

Thoughts?

Microsoft.Windows.Vista.Activation.Workaround.READ.NFO-iND

here's what you guys can do for Vista until a crack that actually works
is done, you can reset activation 3 times, meanig 4*30=120Days use of
vista just use in start->run rundll32 slc.dll,SLReArmWindows its not a
complete workaround but it does mean things will stay legit since there's
no crack.

you can use either that command or this from cmd,
cscript \windows\system32\slmgr.vbs -rearm , should make no diff.

dont forget to do it every 29 days.

| | |Windows Vista, the next generation OS from Microsoft is now RTM.|¯| | |
| | |This DVD includes both the 32Bit and 64Bit versions of Vista on 1 | | | |
| | |DVD. It is bootable into either the 32Bit or 64Bit setup and will |-| | |
| | |allow you to install any of the versions of Vista listed below: | | | |
| | || | | |
| | |Windows Vista Home Basic(x86) or (x64)| | | |
| | |Windows Vista Home Basic N(x86) or (x64)| | | |
| | |Windows Vista Home Premium(x86) or (x64)| | | |
| | |Windows Vista Business(x86) or (x64)| | | |
| | |Windows Vista Business N(x86) or (x64)| | | |
| | |Windows Vista Ultimate(x86) or (x64)| | | |
| | |Windows Vista Starter (x86) | | | |
| | || | | |
| | |You can also install Vista from another Windows via the autorun.| | | |
| | |However please note that you cannot install/start the x64 Vista | | | |
| | |setup from a 32bit/x86 Windows install, you must start it from an | | | |
| | |x64 install of Windows. | | | |
| | || | | |
| | |OEM/Retail versions are all available on the DVD depending on the | | | |
| | |type of key you enter.| | | |
| | || | | |
| | |Similar to our previous releases of Vista during the beta,| | | |
| | |we are providing 1 key that will install Vista. In this case, the | | | |
| | |key is an RTM universal key and will allow you to choose whichever| | | |
| | |version of Vista you wish to install. The key will however not| | | |
| | |activate Vista. The same key is also builtin to every Vista ISO by| | | |
| | |MS for trial/quick install purposes.| | | |
| | |For further info, see sourcesx86sourcesinfsetup.cfg on the ISO.| | | |
| | || | | |
| | |Therefore, that means you can also choose to install Vista without| | | |
| | |a key by selecting Next during the cd-key prompt during Setup | | | |
| | |without entering a key, then pressing No for the popup window. It | | | |
| | |will make no difference to activation however and you will still| | | |
| | |have a limited period of time to use it.| | | |
| | || | | |
| | |Since Windows XP, Microsoft has instituted Windows Product| | | |
| | |Activation (WPA). This prevents any extended full usage of the| | | |
| | |Product beyond the allotted time, determined at install. We are NOT | | | |
| | |providing workarounds or 'fixes' for WPA. You are still required to | | | |
| | |activate your software within this time. While we are aware of| | | |
| | |possible workarounds in the wild that may work with Windows Vista,| | | |
| | |we suggest keeping yourself out of trouble. Most release groups | | | |
| | |will tell you, "if you like it buy it," we say the same.| | | |
| | || | | |
| | || | | |
| | |Note: When selecting the version of Vista to install during Setup,| | | |
| | |you must select the type that corresponds to the architecture | | | |
| | |you selected prior to the start of Setup. (ie. if you choose| | | |
| | |the x64 Setup, you must select an x64 version from the list | | | |
| | |of Vistas to install.)|_| | |
| | || | | |
| | |The build number for those interested is: 6000.16386.061101-2205| | | |
| | || | | |
| | |Nukers-This must remain an ISO or it will not extract or boot.| | | |
| | || | | |
| | |______________________________________________________________________|v| | |
| | |WB| | |
| | |________________________________________________________________________| | |
| | || |
| | |________________________________________________________________________| |
| | |Install Notes[-][][×]| | |
| | |_______________________________________________________________________ | | |
| | | .Unpack. |^| | |
| | | .Burn to dvd or mount with an emulator |¯| | |
| | | .Install, key is: check nfo (Universal Key) |_| | |
| | |OR Leave the cd-key field blank and install | | | |
| | | without a key. | | | |

It's perfect Smile

It's a pity that every single version of Vista requires a form of activation via the new Activation 2.0. So there are no "magic" Corp keys bypassing activation like before with previous MS OS's.

Still, at least Office 2007 Enterprise still uses Activation 1.0 and with the right key will bypass activation altogether.

Me, I'll be sticking to XP x64 for a while longer Smile

The BillGates release is 32-bit only and offers all versions of 32-bit Vista. WinBeta is both 32-bit and 64-bit and also offers all versions of Vista. So it's your decision whether to go 32-bit or 64-bit and choose the appropriate release. For more future choice, go with WinBetas Smile

Remember though that neither of which will allow you to activate. Probably be a while before some other workaround appears that actually works. But I may be wrong, I'm sure theres lots of attempted hacking going on as I type.
