I've just tried "Windows Vista RTM 32Bit & 64Bit (c) Microsoft *AIO* " but when I boot from the disk I get the screen with a WinBeta.org background and a command prompt window running something but it never gets anywhere! Going to try the original BillGates release now..

This is why I don't install new windows operating systems for a few months after you lot have properly tested it Smile

Does anyone know about the gaming performance yet? I remember reading that the beta's saw as much as a 60-70% decrease in FPS when running on Vista over XP. If that is the case, my 9800XT is definately not going to be seeing Vista this year Smile

Oddly enough, game performance is quite good in the Vista Ultimate with Aero on :O I'm still testing but I wouldnt say its a huge lot slower than XP, the game browser module in Vista is also very cool Smile

My Specs:
Pentium D 805 2.66
2x300gig hard drives
2 Gig RAM
XFX OC'ed 7600GT 256mb...
NForce4 mobo with onboard AC' 97 Sound Chip

Vista score: 4.2 for ultimate

Am quite pleased with Vista now, I applied the lattest fix so It says activated but that will expire in july nxt, hopefully a proper activation crack soon Smile

Good luck

Nick

Update: 1

Need 4 Speed Carbon is not vista compatable Sad Tried compatability mode & all etc...

Update: 2

Am going back to XP now Smile Although I am impressed by vista and compatability wasnt bad, I want to have knowledge that my OS wont lock out on me coz of crack or whatever, But overall am impressed with Vista final...

vista is still one useless piece if shiny crap, ppl should've realize that by now
u need to wait at least 1 year for all kinda soft optimization for it or just use it as experimental product
my word of advice stick to xp if u wanna save your ass extra pain Wink

I mean, it seems people are getting lots of errors and such with installation, missing files? and then some of these files are from 5840? in the BillGates release.

Would people recommend another release instead?

Hfric: mm yes upgrades are never a good idea when it comes to windows (atleast it hasn't been in the past) instead you should do a clean install, you should keep your winxp install though if possible and do a clean install on a different partition)

AMD Ryzen 9 5900X | Noctua NH-D15 chromax.black | ASUS Crosshair VIII Dark Hero | 32 GB Trident Z 3600Mhz | Gigabyte Aorus PCIe4 1TB SSD | Corsair MP510 1TB SSD |ASUS RTX 3080 Ti TUF | Fractal Design Define 7 | Seasonic 850W Platinum

I installed win vista to a seperate partition and kept winxp. Everything went clear except that instalation replaced my partition letters, but that's not a problem. Well, I'm quite pleased with new appearance. Everything seems very fresh, most software works, except dc++ Sad . I'll try some games now.

It's not "stupid and pointless", Microsoft is stupid and pointless do include this as an option when it's bugged up, but non-IT users who don't really know about it aren't stupid, it's a valid option they are offered and it sound better (but is not).

Saaaaa : dc++ don't work? can you try ApexDC++?

Whats different? Is this legit? :/ I have seen quite a few Vista related Trojan/Virus/Spywares being uploaded recentley (usually in the form of a patch for activation).

EDIT:

Seems to be about 6 files.... no signs of anything 'dodgy' as yet but im not sure what you are supposed to do with these.....

BG-MSDN.PPF
LRMCFRE_EN_DVD-after.md5
LRMCFRE_EN_DVD-before.md5
md5summer.exe
ppf-o-matic3.exe
readme.txt
vista_6000.md5

Following in the ReadMe (Dont ask me what it says i have no idea grinhurt)

you can patch the gates iso with the ppf so it wil be identical to the msdn iso on the msdn networks.
then with the md5 files u can check the patched iso.

I managed to get it working. After changing some conection settings (apexdc), it finaly started downloading files. That's great Smile Btw, have to admit, that wmp11 is crap Smile it uses 50% cpu.
