Folder is hidden. You can get there by typing in the path manually. Worked for me. Still not sure how to unhide hidden folders in Vista.

now the only thing that worries me now , are the later titles Vista compatible ... like Kingpin , Dune and many many others ,
yeah and know all will say use DOSBOX or Virtual PC , but what about other games that need winxp ...

so looks like the future is shitty , why the hell we need a new operating system when the old is fine , just release those DX10 drivers ... becoz i don`t wanna a Os that is a simple pimp out WIn xp with shit Aero desktop that lowers the performance of every thing ...

DOn`t believe the propaganda that we needed a new OS ... its all Hype shit

anyway this Vista remembers me Windows ME , that became later a pimp out version of win 2000 and Finaly turned into a Windows XP

remember this guys

ok , 2 quick questions:

1) When i go to hibernate, i only see a black screen and then it shuts down, in win xp is was a bar with the text "hibernating windows..."
I have a bar when i resume though...

2)What about animated desktops? Is it included or not? Cant find it
I must still use that animateddesktop.exe tool to use a screensaver as desktop.
But with that tool there are no desktop icons

Thnx

Is there any "evaluation copy" in the bottom right of your desktop?
I think that the crack that use the betas/RCs keys (Windows Vista RTM Activation Crack-IND, Microsoft Windows Vista RTM PROPER Activation Crack-ReeBSaW, etc) seems to validate windows but actually only until july 2007 (like intended for the betas/RCs).
Anyone tried successfully the so-called corporate keys quoted in a previous page?

vista rtm x64 is sweat. i have amd x2 proc, ati x series gfc, 2 gb ram, 75 gb partition, and dual boot with x64 xp pro. my vista rating:

processor: 4.9
memory(RAM): 4.9
graphics: 5.9
gaming graphics: 4.9
primary hard drive: 5.2
base score: 4.9 (windows experience index)

Razz Which is much better than my 2 yr old dual processor machine which got a 1.0 base score!

everything recognized on install as far as drivers goes, it even recognized my logitech lazer mouse. oops, it didn't recognize my audio (via). via didn't have a vista driver for my audio but the x64 xp version worked (using device manager and the setup .exe that comes with the driver).

bummer, only getting stereo instead of 7.1 audio with the non-vista drivers. oh, well. guess i'll just have to wait for via to release x64 vista audio driver for 7.1 playback. :/

resource manager is so cool. superfetch rocks. everything smooth as silk and very responsive. i love aero glass! i turned off uac off (control panel->user account) that thing annoys me...too many nag screens. i also told security center to quit bitchin' and vacate my systray area. Smile

now i just need to figure out how to auto login without entering the damn password every time then i'll be set.

i think i've only skimmed the top of all the things in vista (try expanding the control panel -- zillion of things in there). the defrag suck -- no graphic or any sort of progress bar.

whoever said vista sucks on x64 must have a crappy system. even though i only get 4.9 rating, it runs quite smooth. my system is less than a year old though. ^_^

X64 versions suck not because of poor performance but because of poor driver support and many software compatibility issues.

Exactly! Thats the only thing i've had problems with - the drivers/software compatibility... it ran excellent with stuff the programs that worked on it.

Dunno where i read it and if it was correct but Microsoft would release the x86 & x64 versions of its OS on the same DVD, installing by default the x64 version if the PC supports it. If it is true this would force the hardware manufacturers to release all their drivers in a x64 version pretty quickly.
Otherwise, if it was real for Win XP x64 pro, now that both the latest intel and amd CPU have the x64 features we can just hope it will not be like this with Vista x64.

instead of having 2 topics talkin' about the same Vista release, but one's deeply more into the help/issue/resolving topics and this one's not showing much effort in it's last posts, let's block this one and get into the Windows.Vista.Final-billgates topic,k?..you don't want to spam on both pages when you can save your efforts and talk on only 1,right..?

lol, yeah you are right, being an open scale it goes over 5.
"A computer with a base score of 4 or 5 is able to run all new features of Windows Vista with full functionality, and it is able to support high-end, graphics-intensive experiences, such as multiplayer and 3‑D gaming and recording and playback of HDTV content. Computers with a base score of 5 were the highest performing computers available when Windows Vista was released."

I got a 5.9 subscore with my 7900 GT o/c and my amd 3500+ is holding back with a 4.1 subscore.

warning! for people with ati cards, don't install the following ati driver:

catalyst_8-31-100_vista64_rc2.exe

I've noticed some slowdowns, hiccups, stuttering, and general less responsiveness after installing the above driver. Just stick with the default ati driver that comes with vista for now. Razz

About the scoring, Vista is intentionally giving low scores on current hardware, so users would have reason to upgrade their PCs (I'm not making this up, read it somewhere, perhaps on winsupersite). Otherwise, users would get a 10 and think "why should I upgrade, I have the best PC".

to bypass the user login, just don't enter a password when it ask to create a user name during setup. Smile I think you could also do this via "control panel->user accounts" as well after setup.

i kick ass! i found this nice little gem. this thing reminds me of the old defrag tool from way back in the win95 days but it works in vista x64 and is a lot better than the default vista defrag. it has a nice gui and is fast!

Auslogics Disk Defrag 1.0 free version

just google for it!

Update:

crap, it can't defrag the following file for some reason (it's locked according to the defrag report):

$mft::$bitmap

frag before: 186 files
defrag file after: 185 files

went from 0.12% to 0.00% ... coolness!

you making fun of me or something? Smile

my gfx card has 256 mb and my system ram has 2 gb. i think it means vista is allocating 767 mb system ram with my 256 mb gfx card ram so now my games can now use up to 1gb of ram as gfx card ram.
