|
 |
a few days ago i thought i would start backing up some stuff off my hd, only to find out my dvd writer would only write at 4x ,but it was ok the night before.
ive only had it for about a month, its a pioneer 111D.
im using nero ,and also the disks im using are ok plus ive tried another brand of dvd but the same problem..
so i did a format and reinstalled windows xp and the same problem exists.
so i thought maybe the firmware had gone down on the writer and updated the firmware to 1.29 but that didnt do anything..
what would normally happen when i put my 8x disks in the writer ,i get the option to write at various speeds 12x - 8x - 4x so i would allways pick 8x to write but now i only get 4x.
thanks any help would be appreciated

well the question is if those DVDs where +/rw/ or -
my LG burner can burn 4x DVD - with the speed of 8x , and the 4x DVD + /RW/ with the speed of 12x
anyway try to check your Burner with "Nero DriveSpeed" and "Nero Infotool"
in the first you can change the reading speed of your drive , and in the second check your settings of your burner /speed settings/

I have the same drive (111D) and for some reason I cant burn(it burns, but it always has read errors at the end sectors) isos with Nero (only isos, the rest is fine, and only with nero, using linux I can burn anything on K3b). I dont know whats wrong (and its not the drive, I already had it exchanged for a new), but I dont care since Im using K3B.
Anyway, about your problem, it could be bad quality media, and maybe you could try ejecting the disc (after nero tells you it can only burn at 4x) and loading again, sometimes the speed is redetected.
I think it might also be a bad cable, but Im not sure, dvd burners are tricky.

Wow, where to start:
1. Can you please give the media code / brand of discs you are burning?
2. How is the drive hooked-up? USB/Fireware/IDE Controller or MB?
3. Have you tried another burning program, such as DVD Decryptor or ImgBurn?
4. I assumed you are using CDSpeed to check your discs. Are you also testing the quality in the burner or in a different drive?
5. Which Firmware are you using?
Getting some information on the above should help try and figure out where things are going bad.
Here is a link to the Pioneer forum on CDFreak, lots of good info:

the brand of dvds im using is datawrite titanium 8 speed
ive flashed it to firmware 1.29 but still the same problem
my dvd writer is hooked up to the motherboard on ide
it was writing ok the other day on the same batch of disks
the drive is only at the most 5 weeks old
and also ive tried alchol to burn images and still the same only showing 4 speed write
im beggining to think its a memory problem or power supply - as im getting other strange things happening..
im using winavi to convert but when i click ok to start converting i get an error (The exception integer division by zero)
i also get blue screened sometimes and it says Machine Check Exception error..
ive just upgraded
abit kn8 mb
7900 gs pci express gc
a new power supply thermaltake 470
2 gig a ram , made up of 4 512 sticks 2 are dual memory but not sure about the other 2 ,even though the other 2 are of the same make.
a dvd writer
a dvd reader
a sound blaster live card wich i may take out and use the onboard one
2 hard drives on the same cable as master and slave on ide
the blue screen and avi problem i can put down to memory maybe but the dvd speed problem i cant unless its a power problem...

Is the Event Viewer showing anything that might help you pin point the system problem?
You don't happen to have the actually media code for those datawrite's do you?
