VISTA doesn't "emulate" DX9, at all. It uses a parallel version of DX9, called DX9.L, which is (according to MS themselves) faster than the XP-version.

Warning! , although not tested by myself, I have heard that this is in fact a trojan that drops a mirc client in windows/system32/include

and adds a registry entry to:

HKEY_USERSS-1-5-21-3162540769-1247153951-2534765904-1000SoftwareMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionWindowsrun

these make it run at every reboot

and if you wonder if you're infected, it supposedly opens up a new internetbrowser every couple of seconds ( process svchost.exe started by the logged on user )

Gothic 3 is not the best game to test it on. It was buggy as hell to begin with so i can't imagine what it would do on vista Smile

Ok, so it's legit, but what does it do? The NFO explains nothing. There isn't any MSDN key supplied, and even if it was, it would be a manner of minutes until MS disables it.

Those who want to play their videos within Windows Vista x64 Ultimate's Media Center may found this ffdshow build for 64-bit useful:

On my side i have tested, on the Ultimate x64 version, 'Anno 1701', works fine except for a graphical glitch with the water when all options are maxed up, and 'Medieval 2 : total war' which runs better for me than under XP MCE 2005.

About the scoring, Vista is intentionally giving low scores on current hardware, so users would have reason to upgrade their PCs (I'm not making this up, read it somewhere, perhaps on winsupersite). Otherwise, users would get a 10 and think "why should I upgrade, I have the best PC".
microsoft as quoted earlier:
"A computer with a base score of 4 or 5 is able to run all new features of Windows Vista with full functionality, (...) Computers with a base score of 5 were the highest performing computers available when Windows Vista was released."

Splinter Cell Double Agent doesn´t seem to be working in Vista, thats too bad. Hopefully the start releasing gamepatches for vista soon so we can play our games. Good drivers are starting to come in now too.

For those having the desktop tag "evaluation copy" after applying the crack - there is a fix:

windows vista desktop tag removal

From nfo:
Installation:

1. Taking and giving ownership of the file"user32.dll.mui"
using the File Properies->Security tab, and giving your
user account/group full privileges (that is, permissions).

2. Rename the file:
x:\Windows\System32\en-US\user32.dll.mui to "user32.dll.bak"

3. Copy the file user32.dll.mui to
x:\Windows\System32\en-US\

4. Reboot/Log Off and enjoy your clear desktop.

© 2006 Lost SOul™ & Nesquix

Upped by BTJ

Tested and works perfectly.

NVIDIA 97.19 MS Vista RTM build X32 and X64 Drivers:

Quote:
Windows Vista x86 & x64 (RTM build)

This is a new Vista ForceWare driver with build 97.19. We repackaged the archive and it contains both the 32 and 64-bit driver.

First reports from our forums say that the drives work really good, there's even AA active now. No control panel for the drivers is in here though.

You must instal it from update driver of video device.

going to try them Smile

I was wondering if there is a trick that you can use to install this on a german RC2 as update? Can you update an english RC2 correctly?
For me it complains that the language doesn't match and refuses to do an upgrade. Maybe I need to convert my current RC2 installation to english first, but I don't know where to find the language files?

Is there any other solution besides waiting for the german ISO?

Any idea if you can keep the control panel from the 96.85 release after updating with these?

Let me know how it goes either way... Razz

run "control userpasswords2" from the run command, uncheck "users must enter a password...", then enter your password and its done.

Hey guys,
I'm a bit confused on what version of Vista to download.

What do you guys recommend ?

Right now i'm getting Microsoft.Windows.Vista.RTM.32Bit.and.64Bit.AIO.DVD released the 11th, is it the best one out there? Orr should I get the Bill Gates rls ?

Thanks for the heads up.

WinBeta is sourced from MSDN x86/x64 RTM ISO's, but is a customised DVD image.

The "best" out there are the original, unmodified MSDN ISO's:

x64 = en_windows_vista_x64_dvd_X12-40712.iso
x86 = en_windows_vista_x86_dvd_X12-34293.iso
