at work we have a microboards bluray burning solution i tried backing up a bluray ps3 game and it doesnt work in the console i never expected it to, but there ya go
What do you do for a living? Having read your posts in the past, Ive always thought you were exceptionally knowledgeable when it comes to console hardware.
He's probably working in arts of somesort. Maybe video editing or sound. Just because his works has a bluray writer doesn't mean he's working with consoles.
Firmware updates can be downloaded and burnt for use in the PS3.
All someone has to do is crack that, and make their own firmware version that can read unsigned games and apps ....... and the PS3 is well and truly pirate city.
Xbox360 updates cannot be downloaded, except over xbox live. Sony have given them Linux out of the box, the ability to run homebrew and apps and even provide the firmware, ready for downloading.
I must be missing something, because the PS3 appears to be the ultimate hack box.
Not trying to nitpick but that isnt true... there are updates to the 360 that you can burn and use you just cant change any data because of the digital signature.
Damn you're basing that on news over a year old. If my memory doesn't fail me that rumor was proven false. The PS3 doesn't have protection that locks a game to a certain PS3.
If you want proof you can see the disc that Sony sent ign to test the PS3. That was about a month ago. Check the disc brand
Also seems that the PS3 can already load Linux.
That in fact is a huge step in the homebrew scene of the PS3

Thats a Debug PS3, Totally different from a retail version.

Not really, Its a limited version of linux bootloader that sony is allowing, without 3D hardware acceleration. Not very useful for more advanced homebrew. For homebrew to really take off on the PS3 you will need to find an exploit in the PS3 XMB using something like LibTIFF.
The only gaming system that I ever had that wasn't cracked in some way was the Sega Master System
Spectrum 48k (tape to tape)
Amiga 512 (floppy to floppy)
Sega Master System
Super Nes (Super Wild Card- Floppy Discs)
Playstation 1
Playstation 2
X-Box
Game-Cube
X-Box 360
Dream Cast
All cracked ...... SO it's not a case of can they , it's a case of when it will happen, I think cos of the blu ray it will be at least 2 years
somehow ps3 loox painfully like ps2
lol even same controller
x360 has much better design overall
ps3 loox like shiny casket & loox like japs lost all their fantasy in FF games
btw it does looks like they dissasembling a bomb
girl almost comes when sees that huge ass fan
The quality of the construction and design is impressive. The 16cm fan and heatsink especially, and the PSU has high quality components.
The controller design is still pure crap though. It (the original PSX controller+bolted on features) is about the most unergonomic controller in existence. Light as a feather too.
Unless your hand has grown around a playstation controller from using the same damn relic for the past 15 years, it really hurts to play on it for a couple hours or more.

1-2 years.....heh they are hacking it in about 3-7 months . They will crack it beacuse sony will make more money with pirate cds....people will buy more pirate cds and more ps3 consoles. im i wrong ???
sony doesn't make a profit on the ps3. they make a profit on the games.
If the PS3 can read DVD's then you should be able to rip down the Blueray Games to a DVD size and play them like that once its hacked. Once it's hacked it'll get my attention and i may buy one next year.
It's bullshit, The guy who posted that (Deadsoulasis) has no clue. He thinks the PSP and PS3 have the same firmware. Idiot.

If you are telling the truth and have actually wrote a "devhook for PS3", this would mean that in mere days, in the very least you have:
* Found a workable exploit in the PS3 bios
* Found a way to obtain kernel access though this exploit
* Wrote a program that works with the exploit to dump the firmware
* Found the encryption keys and decrypted the firmware dump
* Hacked the decrypted dump
* Wrote a program to flash it back to the PS3 (with no failsafe, so bug = $600 brick)
* Cracked all new protection schemes along the way that no one even knows exists yet
