In my opinion the days became 29 when you have Vista running for over 24h. |
That's what I was suspecting, but Hfric says he has a PC running for 5 days and it shows 29 days left. I'm going to start my testing soon with a clean x64 test system.

I don't know if he meant five days of continous running or not.
The test should be:
1) Verify that each time you restart your pc it resets the minutes left to 30 days.
2) Leave the pc on for 25/26h and see when you restart how many minutes left.

DigitalHex
That seems a very longwinded way of doing the BIOS date change.
Too long. Wouldn't it be easier just to change the BIOS, install Vista, then disabled Internet Time (and anything else you may want to), then reboot, change BIOS time, boot up and then plug in lan.
I don't understand what the point of all the safe mode stuff, disabling/enabling admin accounts and not running the MSOOBE.EXE. In fact, didn't seem to achieve much at all. But maybe I did it wrong. Maybe.

He said he ran Vista PC for 5 days straight, it showed 25 days left, then he restarted and it showed 29 days left.
Anyway, my testing will be starting today. The machine will have no internet connection avaible. First I'll try installing it on a current date, then try to move the date forward. That should indicate how the date really influences the days counter. Then I'll install a 2099, and have it run for 25+ hrs, measure minutes counter from boot and just before restart, and then after restart as well. If all goes well, after restart it should go back. After that test, I'll leave the machine (with a new 2099 install) working for a week, then restart and see counters.
Let's hope a crack pops out during that time...

Still, even with the crack, your current Vista installation will be useless after that date. Once evaluation, always evaluation (unless a crack for that comes too )

Yes is always evaluation but is a final version and fully functional... but shows evaluation because I have an evaluation serial...

I never downloaded RC1 or RC2 from MS and installed using the key they gave you, so what happened? I mean if I downloaded RC1 and installed with the key MS gave me, when I activated, would I only have 30 days to "evaluate"?
If not, that explains the crack I've been using. It's merely tricking MS into thinking I installed the RC1 or RC2 and allows me to activate with no expiration. The evaluation "watermark" is the result.
And the watermark patch removes that.
True, it really is a fully fuctional RTM!
So, which brings me back to the original question, of whether the RC1 or RC2 would expire?
If it does, then I'm in for a surprise!
Also, does MS ever stop allowing you to evaluate/activate an RC1 or RC2? I mean if I were happy with an RC1 or RC2, could I use it forever if it didn't expire?
If so, this method is only temporary!
Maybe this also explains the option to change activation key...

So is there even 1 working release of Vista that can be activated with no limitations and still use it to go online?

Yes you are right. Vista is avaible since 10 days and all the crackers of the world are working on it but no crack yet. I think it won't be cracked at least not before some months.
But at least the 2099 trick works fine.

well i think that an oem, corporate version is waited. as these crappy releases are also usable if you want it that much.

all versions need activation so there will be no corporate version without activation afaik.

I heard that trick stops working after a while... Plus Im sure it will be fixed at some point by a windows update.
