Gothic 3 was plain awful.With all the hype around it,JoWood could have bothered to optimise it or offer good comunity support.What they gave us was a game crawling with bugs and crappy support.
So what if this game has some good somewhere in it?
If i need 4 hours to tweak it(using tips from unofficial forums) to run it on a 2000$ machine,i hardly care about the feeling fanboys rant about.Bugs such as random crashes,hyper boars,dissapearing textures and such didn`t help me improve mo opinion any better.
I consider this game the worst of 2006 because I think that the topic creator didn`t want us to mention Solitaire 3D BEACH XTREME EDITION or some other shady game crap.

I would not call them "worst of 2006", but games which could not live up with the hype and became so a major disappointment in my opinion:
- SCDA - reason: worst performance in any "next generation graphics" 3D game until now, full of bugs, missing content (compared to the X360 version), repetitive gameplay, shit controls
- NfS Carbon - reason: a huge step back after the excellent "NfS - Most Wanted", only night cruises, bad performance, the game is simply no fun
(other nominated candidates and why they are not on MY worst-of-list:
- Gothic 3 - sure, full of bugs, but the living world feeling is overwhelming, great graphics and at least for many, many hours fun - until you notice how "empty" the world really is and how simple the mainquest is structured. so its a disappointment, but not belonging to "worst-of" in my opinion
- Dark Messiah: I dont know whats the matter with the problems for many people here, but I like it. only a few bugs, good performance and fun gameplay
- NWN2: sure, the 3D engine is complete crap, if you cant even run it with shadows on a high-end machine, but its an excellent RPG, great story, long gameplay value, good atmosphere, fun characters. only the bugs are annoying... )

All the sports game are worst games of 2006 and all those games that scored below 5/10 on all review sites.
LOL @ this thread, everyone's worst games are a few games that got released in last few weeks and they didnt like. It's like your memory goes only 2 weeks back, cmon 2006 is a whole year, there are worse games than carbon or scda...

The FEAR expansion pack. Worse optimization than the original game, no original gameplay, and the ending sucked.
I'd give gothic 3 the title too, but it still shows promise over all the bugs and lack of polish. I'll just wait for a few patches.

Ok, here is my 2 cents.
NFS Carbon
The first NFS I played was hot pursuit and it rocked. It really did. NFS Carbon is fake, lame and totally commercial. EA is like your dad coming down to the park to hang out with you. It sucks.
PGA Tour 07
This is actually a downgrade. They have removed some of the best courses. And what is with that perspective blur?
Never Winter Nights 2
Horrible camera perspective. System hog for what you get. Why the need for the .net framework. Perhaps it was written in VB.

I kind of liked the blur - but they should have included more courses.

you know that many game devs use visualstudio 2005 c++ right? or you prefer them to use the old unpatched and dying IDE VS 6 ?
biggest letdown for me has to be gothic3. Rushed, bugged, uninstalled.

And yeah...obviously some shit like Barbie's Radical Fashion for Idiots is the worst game this year. Gothic, Oblivion etc etc don't stoop to that level just because you were disappointed by them. I blame a poorly named thread.

Worst game released in 2006 I've played? Hard to tell, but the game that disappointed me the most is without doubt Dreamfall - The Longest Journey. This was one of the shortest "adventure" games I have played for a long time, but I guess one of the reasons for it being that short is the lack of puzzles

I was being sarcastic Hurley. Don't be so stressed. Personally, I couldn't care less what they program in as long as the game rocks. Do you know what I mean.
But, hey, just played Gothic3. And I agree with you. After a marathon of messing about with INI files to make the game playable without massive freezing I can't even be bothered playing it tonight. The game may rock, but no-one needs that kind of shit before you can even play it. And why should I have to buy another 1 gig of memory to play it smoothly on medium settings. Have they not heard of Optimization. And I don't care if the use Visualstudio or IDE VS 6 to do it.

Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords - great idea not to have copy protection but the game was as much fun as doing your taxes.
Swat 4 The Stetchkov Syndicate - This should have been a free download! Customers should not have to pay for patches!
The Regiment - ugliest action arcade shooter pretending to be a tactical shooter. Horrible game that should have been in the budget bargain bin.

umm, but what does vs2005 got to do with .net ? i mean, heh, you can still code c++. You dont have to use c# or any .net crap..
