That trackir headset device is totally useless. What good is it if you turn your head to look left but you can no longer see the monitor? Sure you character on screen is looking left but you the player can no longer see the monitor! You would have to always be looking at the monitor with the corners of your eyes.
This would only be useful if you had a headset with little monitors built into it for each eye.

trackir IS A MUST HAVE FOR CHOPPER / AIRPLANE .
it help too to well approach and land on ground, because you can instantly turn head and appreciat approach speed and distance.
it's far harder with a mouse or a povhat.

You don't turn your head away from the monitor. You just tilt your head slightly.

1 Shutdown your internet ( usually done by disabling your network adapter )
2 Start Arma and host a LAN game.
3 Enable your internet.
4 Start Hamachi ( www.hamachi.cc ) and join /create a network
5 invite your friends to hamachi, and let them join in the Arma Lan game
Always says key in use. I disable my internet and everything. I even have the 3 lines in my windows host file:
127.0.0.1 armedass.ms12.gamespy.com
127.0.0.1 armedass.master.gamespy.com
127.0.0.1 armedass.available.gamespy.com |
Start hamachi first.
Unplug net cable
Start game
Host Lan
Plug in net cable
Friends join hamachi network
Friends start game
Friends enter lan lobby and click on your game |
This does not work! If you are using the same key it knows immediately and disconnecting the network cable is not a solution as it doesn't call out to check the key provided you have modified your host file, it just knows that everyone is using the same one. If you are getting it to work on the LAN, my guess is you have different keys.

my actual router configuration hasnt ANY PORT FORWARDING.
that means that NO ONE INCOMING packet can go trough 2302 port FROM THE EXTERNAL IP.
BUT
i have hamachi , and comm go trough hamachi virtual device.
so, my idea, is TO DENY ALL INCOMING CONNECTION form internet device, and let the hamachi stuff and your LAN card without any firewall

ok. here my report:
1) no any forwarding rules for armed assault port on my router.
2) 127.0.0.1 armedass.ms12.gamespy.com
127.0.0.1 armedass.master.gamespy.com
127.0.0.1 armedass.available.gamespy.com
in \system32\drivers\etc\hosts file
NOW I CAN START AN HOST EVERYTIME. i dont need to close internet connection anymore.
Thanks Nirv

Did anybody mangage to play multiplayer with 2 of the same keys in 1 server? I tried it but it didn't work.
Seems like the game checks keys in 2 ways:
It checks the key with the gamespy master server (we have a workaround for that)
It also compares all the clients keys in the server.(so i tried changing my key)
When you install arma the key is saved in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bohemia Interactive Studio\ArmA\KEY
I tried manually changing the key but this didn't work because the game checks the key on startup. (I got an incorrect key error)
Is it hard to make a keygen?

I thought there was only 1 key? The one i changed in the registry.
Apart from that i can only find the 'bi.bikeys' file in the \ArmA\keys folder. But i think those are the keys from the starforce cd protection.(I deleted the file and i didn't affect the game)
And about the issue of cd-keys and online play.
All players in the game have an id number. And what i noticed was that all clients who have the downloaded version(with the same cd-key) have the same online id-number.
And i guess you cant have 2 players with the same id-number in the same server.

What happens if you change the key in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bohemia Interactive Studio\ArmA\KEY AFTER you're hosting a LAN game and before your friend joins?

Use the method I just posted above, I tested it with a number of friends and it works perfectly.

It isn't going to matter WHEN you start Hamachi. I've tried before and after disconnecting my network. It seems it internally checks instead of remotely which is why I don't believe you.

Cyborgmatt :
It doesnt check online, it just compares keys! If they are the same it boots you. The only way you are going to circumvent that is with unique keys.
