if that private server trick works, we should try the following: install any verseion of windows vista, and replace the activation files with the enterprise/business ones. (i mean, the keyfiles named in that well known rc2 trick)

well, i just setup the server, it already has a machine count of > 25, so anything else that connects to it DOES activate... have fun guys.

could someone please explain how activating with this chinese kms server works ? or how i could set up my own server to activate? Do i really need more than 25 pcs in a network to run my own activation server or did i get something wrong ?

Interesting idea the VMWare image to activate windows. I think this could be the solution to all vista activation problems. I'm guessing that MS has an activation server for ALL flavours of Vista, business, home, ultimate, premium that the public connect to when activating. Therefore would it not be possible to arrange a VMWare image of this server (or a clone of it) that we could mount. then we could connect to this server to activate windows rather than the MS site itself.
This way you would not be cracking vista, but faking authentication instead. Interesting.

still wayy to much BS to install this os.
better off waiting for a 100% working crack or keygen...
besides vista has poor driver support unlike xp
there is absolutely no advantage vista has over xp at the moment maybe in the future sometime but ATM it just is more bloated and uses more resources

Can you please keep you blaberring down Leo while everyone is trying to find a solution ? If that supposedly VMWare image solution works, lets try to find where that image is, download it and try it. Who knows if we can find the image of a KMS server activating the Ultimate Edition, we can even activate the Ultimate version offline. But for now, lets try to find the VMware image of the KMS server that is out and try to activate our version of Windows Vista Business.

The only way you can activate the Ultimate version yourself is by keygenning the phone activation, which no one to date has been able to do on winxp, as there is no KMS server for Ulitmate, only business/enterprise

The KMS stuff works, just so you know.
I activated enterprise with my own kms vmware image earlier today.
The chinese server still works though and thats much easier and takes no time at all to use.
But if it goes down you can just put up your own and activate with that.
All you need is enterprise or business edition and a special "KMS client key" as license key.
The KMS server is only a regular business n edition vista that uses a special "kms server key".
The vmware image has the advantage of being activated indefinatly already and has already got over 25 connections so you don't need 25 pcs to activate.
Only catch is it works only for business and enterprise but enterprise has everything that ultimate has except media center.

downloaded the server with torrent. I was getting full speed at my DSl connection ( about 350 KB/s). Theres a lot of seeders and leechers now so it should be faster.

The solution will be a home made image of Vista using something like WAIK where it will include an integrated client side server (or process) using hosts to redirect to 127.0.0.0 for the validation of vista.
Know what I mean.
And yes the Chinese server does work. Enterprise only though however. As this is the only flavour that uses VLK. Apparently there is no check for the VLK servers to contact MS. Looks like MS shot themselves in the foot with this.

Not really, because Enterprise is not all that appealing... Sure it's Vista, but it lacks many Multimedia features... Ultimate FTW! |

You can run the kms server without having 25 Vista clients.
Then only problem it's that it works only for Buiseness and Enterprise.
