Interesting - this will probably put VMWare out of business if it works as advertised.

Cool... I wonder if it really works e.g. for 64 bit systems Very Happy

This really isn't that "new". They have been doing this for years in the emulation world.

This has nothing to do with emulating games or gaming platforms. It is to do with emulating computer architectures such as x86, ppc and so on.

So your telling me that those "gaming platforms" have nothing in common with the x86 standard? that the chips in the ps, ps2, xbox and so on have nothing in common with the x86 standard.
The answer I linked to was posted by a mr. R.Belmont. That guy knows what he talks about as he has about 10 years experience with emulation.

Of course they do - but software for an xbox with an x86 chip can't run on a pc with an x86 chip. It's a completely different type of emulation to emulate an xbox or ps2 on the PC.

True, but being it Xbox, Ps2 and Mac. They all have a different architecture. I can't quite recall which parts of the xbox is different from the pc. As far as I can recall its a 700 mhz PIII, with a modified gf3(among other things). All of the system have been emulated on the pc in one way or another and as you have stated the way it was done differs from each other.
I know to little right now to put my finger on how they are planning to emulate the different architectures. But it will be a nice read.

yea but imagine the uses for this emulator. It is well known that the G5 proccessors in the apples are extremely powerful, imagine playing ur games on that.

g5 extremely powerful? get off the pot dude and start smoking something that actually puts common sense in your head. 2ghz vs 4ghz no matter the supposed better use per mhz 2ghz is never going to beat 4 ghz unless the app was made specificaly for mac and has a port to pc. Die apple Die

what are u talking about? Amd athlon 64 fx53 is 2.4ghz and it beats every single p4 thats out there. What you dont understand is that certain proccessors have more ipc's then others. The higher the ipc the lower the max attainable ghz is. Now about ur apple statement, who said we have to use apples software? Its an IBM chip the g5 is not made by apple. Also the emulation takes no performance hit infact it runs even faster if there is faster hardware.

Just take a look at the SPEC benchmarks from the new G5 (dual) with water cooling. The G5 still gets owned by the Dell Precision Workstation 650 (with 2x Xeons 3,2Ghz), even by the old model with only 2MB L3 cache. And apple and Steve Jobs still alleges that G5 is faster.

I havent been following the G5s very closely but it seems that the early benchmarks that I saw were misleading since they were using cheats.
