Hm, and where do you obtain that KMS service? Does it come directly from MS, or is it included in Server "Longhorn" 2007?

Chinese server is down now, at least the dns which redirects to loopback address.
I think the kms service is included in windows and activated by a kms server license key. (one such key is available at the chinese forum)
But it's no use unless you can activate it with MS, the vmware image is already activated with this key.

"Windows Vista crack is actually a trojan - Malware makers are starting to take advantage of the number of users searching for cracks for the pirated copies of Vista floating around. A new download has started circulating around the crack boards called "Windows Vista All Versions Activation 21.11.06". It purports to be an activation crack for any version of Vista. However, the file is actually a trojan-carrier which will install Trojan-PSW.Win32.LdPinch.aze onto your PC. BitTorrent users who posted reviews of the crack said that a number of antivirus programs detected the malware, though Norton AntiVirus and NOD32 did not.

Hope your enjoying the cracks thats out there.

Happy, happy, joy, joy! I hope the KMS works for Vista x64 edition (enterprise preferrily if we can't have ultimate yet).

Somone needs to release an enterprise-to-ultimate vista addon pack:

Windows Media Center
Windows Media Center HDTV and CableCard support
Xbox 360 Media Center Extender compatibility
Windows Movie Maker
Windows Movie Maker HD format support
Windows DVD Maker
Windows Ultimate Extras

I'm sure things like movie maker can be transferred between the two versions without much effort. Heck, if someone could hack the programs and features (add or remove programs for you old xp users) to include them, then we can install them off the dvd.

Damn chinese got to it first. Horay for China!

Another first, I just activated Ultimate via the KMS server Smile. You need to copy/replace 2 special files from Enterprise or Business Edition to Ultimate edition, something sort of like Microsoft.Windows.Vista.RTM.PROPER.Activation.Crack-ReeBSaW..have fun!

edit: While it does activate, once you try to run Ultimate only apps, ie: Media Center, you get an error screen: "Windows cannot open this program because it has been prevented by a software restriction policy"..back to the drawing board

It seems that KMS method works OK.

However, I heard that this activation method is only valid for 180 days, and need to be reactivated after that.

What about the KMS server (VMWare image) ? Is it activated forever or need to be reactivated itself as well ?
Did anyone tried to articially advance the clock by 180 days and see what happens ?

the KMS image is activated forever, and you can use it for future activations. However, MS will probably block the key, which means no more updates

Do you have a guide for this, I am curious about it.

I have a feeling MS have screwed themselves over while trying to screw their customers.
Activation seems to be built into everything and every file almost which means that to block a key they have to change the whole OS.
Because if they only block the key from getting windows update, genuine download etc, you can just switch key to some other key, get a 3 day grace period, install the updates, and then go back to your KMS key and activate again.
Fortunately for us and for them, with the chinese server down regular people are gonna have such a hassle activation this way that it wont really matter to MS if a few people slip through the net of activation which hopefully means that they will leave us alone and regular people will buy or use some half-ass workaround.
If someone ever manages to make a phone activation keygen though, MS can kiss their precious activation goodbye.
In any case MS is gonna have a hard time keeping people from pirating and as they have never managed to do it before there is no reason why they would succeed this time.
I'm a little disappointed by the cracking groups so far though, in that they havn't been able to produce anything of value except one stolen key (not counting chinese efforts).

Nevermind, games are still there, you just need to turn them on in control panel:

Turn Windows features on or off

But my new partition is no good after I reboot. I had vista ultimate on partition c and when I installed the business vista, it took over c. But when I reboot, ultimate vista took over c and business vista cannot be accessed!

So, I'm going to have to wipe out my whole drive and just start over from scratch with vista business. Sad

Just so I understand correctly.... this local activation server only works for the business edition? What is the complete story for how long the activation lasts?

when it expires, is it possible to apply whatever activation crack/patch/etc will be available by then? Or will it require a reinstall? Is a simple reactivation possible?

Also, is it possible by any means to switch versions once it has already been installed?

Could someone give a detailed description of this process?

i'm not sure if there is an easy way to reactivate, especially if you want to change the version to something else.

there will be a proper crack in time...
just be patient, just make sure you dual boot if you want to try vista since
most likely you will have to format the vista partition eventually

unlike windows xp and volume activation 1.0 windows vista doesnt have any corporate
keys which will permanently activate it. volume activation 2.0 requires a corporate
user to either do a one time activation through microsoft servers (mak) or companies
can host a local activation server which does not talk to microsoft (kms). the only
difference is kms requires re-activation once every 180 days. however as long as
theres a local kms server its simple to keep windows activated. this release is a
vmware image of a permanently activated kms server which allows local activation of
windows vista business/enterprise edition. volume activation 2.0 is only built into
those two editions.

install vista business/enterprise edition with the key XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-2V3X8.

using the latest vmware workstation, boot the image. disable vmware firewall.

on the non vm vista right click the command prompt icon and run as admin. type ...

cscript c:\windows\system32\slmgr.vbs -skms vm_vista_ip

cscript c:\windows\system32\slmgr.vbs -ato

windows should now be activated.

to check activation status type ...

cscript c:\windows\system32\slmgr.vbs -dlv

tested using echos windows vista enterprise and vmware workstation 5.5.3 but seems to
have issues with the billgates windows vista business.

I was able to activate Windows Buiseness using my private KMS virtual server!!!!! So we have finally a proper offline crack.
My advice is to install Vista using also the 2099 trick in order to turn the 180 days from a real time count to an effective pc usage timer. You should at least double the days avaible this way. Anyway it takes just a few seconds to rectivate Vista so this is not a major matter.
