what version should i install on my PC if i use it for gaming, Multimediastuff, Movies etc. ?
I see on the Microsoft Page, that vista Business doesn´t have the Windows Media Center, that is quite bad. But what about Vista Enterprise ? From what ir read, it´s has more Features than Business Edition, but what are the differences and does it have all the Multimedia Functions of Home Premium ?

The features of Ultimate are hardly worth it and can be easily replaced with other software.
There are two problems with the KMS VMWare image that I can foresee. An immediate problem is the blacklisting of the KMS server key on Genuine Advantage websites. According to the MS website, if you have the Genuine Advantage ActiveX, it can put you in a Non-Genuine state giving you 30 days to change the KMS server key, reactivate the server and reactivate yourself against the server again. If they stay true to what they say, you can avoid this by avoiding installing the ActiveX!
A second problem with private images is that the physical count will eventually drop down below 25, since if a machine does not reconnect within 30 days, the total count is reduced by 1. This would mean that private VMWare images would become rather useless after a month. However, having more than 25 machines connect to it, or having a public or semi-public server helps keep the count health
Just keeping things in perspective here, but so far this seems the best method available.

All your problems are already solved by people on another forum.
By changing the date in vmware (the date the image uses) and keeping it around december this year, the image will keep it's machine count and still activate anything no matter what date the clients have.
You can add a line to the configuration file to make the image start with the right date also to make it even easier.
This method is flawless at the moment, pending action from MS.

The real problem with the VMWare image (and KMS server generally) is that it expects at least 25 computers activating permanently. Within a few days/weeks, this VMWare image will be invalidated because no tenough PCs are registering thru it (yours only!)
This process is well described below :
Q. How are KMS activations aged?
A. When a computer activates using a KMS, its client machine ID (CMID) is added to the n-cache. When the same client renews its activation, the cached CMID and date stamp are removed and the new activation creates a new cache entry. KMS clients renew every seven days by default. However, if the client computer does not renew its activation after 30 days, its CMID is removed from the n-cache and the n-count reduces by one. To prevent KMS activation aging from bringing n-count below 25, the KMS caches the CMIDs of the most recent 50 activations.
What this is saying is that KMS is designed to be in reasonably constant contact with 25 or more computers. If contact is simply with one machine then the count on the KMS host will be continually reduced and therefore you will get the insufficient count error that has been described.
The problem then amounts to how to keep the count at 25 or higher.
If the vmware/KMS image is somehow liked to a November/December 2006 date (whenever it was originally created) and it picks up new date and time info from the bios of the machine it is installed on, then that is maybe when and why the count is dropped. It thinks - hey it's been 6 months and no computer has made contact. All of a sudden the key count drops to nearly 0.
The solution then might be to turn the clock back on the vmware KMS to Dec 06 after turning the Vista clock forward and then seeing if will renew.

KMS server does not exist it is just a virtual software. How can time have an effect on it. When it's not mounted with VMWare it doesn't exist at all.
Anyway Microsoft seems to have think to all the possible way to crack Vista.

You should advance the clock of your KMS virual server by 1 year and see what happens :
You'll have a nice message that says that the amount of activated PC is not enough (ie below 25)!
It's not working in the long term !

Quote: | You need VMWare image only for first activation.
Then type-
cscript c:\windows\system32\slmgr.vbs -skms 127.0.0.1:1688
Vista can activate it self.
To test go ahead with time 2 years and restart PC. |
To test, copy your original tokxxx.dat to your post,
advance the clock of your PC by 2-3 year and restart PC see what happens
What is understood, doesnt need to be discussed

And this is not a problem to have Vista running in 2007 and a KMS server still in 2006 ?
Activation is still fine with time being so inconsistant ?

When I installed the BillGates version, it didn't give me an option of installing Enterprise edition. I installed business and activated it successfully using the vmware activation server image, but it activated as business. In the Upgrade thing in control panel, it only shows Ultimate as available for upgrade.
How do I get Enterprise?
