I just bought this incredible piece of hardware last week and it's just awesome.
Basically it's a network card with a dedicated Linux running on it, I've found that when playing mmo's like Eve it really decreased my latency, also you can install software on the card and run it independently of your OS/native cpu, you can download software on the webpage http://www.killernic.com/KillerNic/KillerDownloadsFNApps.aspx
for instance, you can install a firewall on it, thus turning your network card into a hardware firewall!, theres also a bittorrent client/server in development.
The potential is there and if development continues at this rate theres really alot of cool stuff to look forward to, but check it out yourself.

oh so not worth it IMHO. Reviews have been mixed, its too damn expensive, my ping is already low enough...
