is it me but the shit changes to much things. Look @ the Serious Sam 2 screenshots... the rocks that are on the ground change places....

not going to enable this crap in my ati drivers if it comes.... theres no way you can get 10 more fps without losing some image quality unless theres a huge bug in the drivers on in the game (sometimes some games run better on ati and sometimes on nVidia)

The difference in frame rates is between AAA and EATM. Rolling Eyes In other words, ATI always had a way to super-sample the alpha textures, but this is a new, faster and better looking way to do that.

The rocks and grass move because of the way those textures are rendered in that particular game.

Whats wrong with you guys, you all got Nvidia or something?

It looks good, and if it improves performance thats even better!

First up. Yes, i do own an nVidia card, mainly because ATi's drivers used to suck for such a long time... ...but that s beside the point.

I remember how nvidia got flak from ati-lovers left and right, if they dared to use optimizations in their drivers that looked like visual cheats for fps gain (there are numerous articles at hardocp.com if you re willing to go through the archives). And now, when ati does it, it s ok all of a sudden?

Face it, the rendering isnt giving you a picture of what it is supposed to look like and I for one find the results not "better looking". Improvements in speed should never go with change in the rendered image.

Yes, it is looking better, and it does look like it is supposed to. Please STFU if you don't know what you are talking about. If you tested this yourself, you would feel as dumb as you sound.

What, you mean like loweing the graphics settings of a game to improve speed? Rolling Eyes

Please, it's a setting, not a hardcoded driver change. Just like any ingame setting, if you don't think the difference in image quality is worth the FPS then you don't use it. But for those people who think it looks the same or better, then the FPS gain is great.

i think you should be able to play any game on any graphics card. if you play for example play double agent on a 386 you should still be able to play it. it will just look like duke nukem or something. my comparison is abit over the top but you get the idea

Just to clarify. IF it does look like it is supposed to do by the game's programmers and is looking better, that logically means, that it didnt look like it was supposed to look beforehand and ati rendered it wrong without the setting. So you better get your reasoning straight

@AM: Sure, it's only a setting in a driver, but it still doesnt feel right in my opinion. Gfx-Cards and their drivers should adhere to standards and render what they are supposed to do. It s bad enough, that they often dont, because there are bugs in the drivers...
I like that in the last years more and more of what used to be set in the gfx-drivers settings has been switched to the games' options / settings and i feel that it s a step back, if drivers will go that route again.

But be that as it may, i dont own an Ati-Card and am happy, if all you Ati-Users feel happy about the fps-gains by it. I just fear, it ll be the beginning of yet another round of people shouting over screenshot renderings and fps in synthetic benchmarks and games they love to play at framerates far above rates you actually need to enjoy a game...

Just because one card renders things slightly different from another card means its drivers are bugged? Wtf are you babbling about?

i was just trying to clarify that your reasoning was skewed. It cant look better and adhere to a rendering-standard at the same time.

And judging from the images in my opinion it doesnt even look better (at least the trees in SS2 look much shittier without the transparancy).

But thats just judging from the screenshots. Could be better looking in the actual game.

When i talked about bugs in drivers i wasnt refering to your logical fuckup anymore, but rather letting of steam about past endevours of stupid driver-programmers for the sake of online-dick-measurements via fps-increases in synthetic benchmarking suites.

Lutzifer, it's a lost cause against nerrd. If it was done in nVidia, he would've gone down on them like there's no tomorrow.

lnatan25. Like I said before. If you don't know what you are talking about, please STFU. I own many nVidia cards, and few ATI cards. Lutzifer didn't say anything that made sense, as his knowledge to this subject seems very limited. So keep your stupid comments to yourself. You look pretty bad defending him. Both of you sound like typical nVidiots. Perhaps you should fallow your own advice, and "Read before posting crap".

Just because I'm more direct then you, doesn't mean my reply is any more inflammatory then yours.

btw. stop quoting the post above. its really lame and pointless.

back on topic. Anyone else care to enlighten me and others how this new technology goes against "rendering standards" Laughing .

All I can say is.. ATi has a VERY VERY tall mountain to climb if it expects its forthcoming R600 GPU to overtake the G80 (8800GTX) core. Nvidia totally trumped em but nice! The G80 totally blows all else away. However, competition is essential to keep technology moving.

MSI GT72S 6QF Dominator Pro S 29th Anniversary Intel i7 6820HK @ 4.0Ghz, 32GB DDR4-2133 RAM, 2x256GB Raid0 Toshiba NVMe 2.5 inch PCIe SSD, Nvidia Geforce GTX 980 OC'ed 200+ Core / 200+ Mem, 17.3 inch LG IPS HD Display @ 75Hz, Intel 7265AC Wifi, Windows 10 Pro BIOS version: .112 EC Firmware version: .105

I caved in and ordered a 8800GTX... AMD shoud've relesead it at the same time. NOw they lose all the potential buyers of 8800 and it will really be a flop if 8800 turns to be better than R600.
