Check gamershell they offer a 14 day free trial with EVE online.

The game certainly looks damn good.
Too bad it's so expensive to actually pay for it.

When I was logged in there were more thn 3000 paying users and about 280 users using the 14 day offer.
They say that on good days they have more then 10000 users online., which at 20 euro's per month should cover the cost of the development of the game ..

eve-online just broke 50k paying subscriptions ,is the only mmorpg in the world afaik that isnt split across shard's.
they hold the record for the most populated mmorpg server and broke 11k users playing the game at once all on the same server ,they claim the server is softcapped at 25k users but could handle more.
all future expansions are covered in the cost of the subscription unlike other games so its not to bad.
the first expansion comes out on the 3rd of november.
CCP who make the game have said they are making money and plan to maintain the game ,add content and expansions for atleast a couple more year's.
it is only 20$ to change a trial acount into a full acount! which includes one month of subscription so you are paying 5€/5$ for the game
the regular monthly subscription is 15$/15€ but if you buy in bigger blocks like 6months at a time it works out cheaper.[/quote]
btw eve-i.com has a graph showing the server activity for the last year where you can clearly see the server has slowly been getting more active.
the game is not dieing just the oposite

Have been playing this game for the last few hours..or more..very addictive.
If you liked freelancer or the original elite this a very nice game, it's a bit complicated but rewarding.
And above all it looks very good.
So this tial isn't so bad..will last me up until rome total war.
I am just wondering if I can continue playing this account a few months later ?

you mean turning it into a full acount at a later date once it has ran out?
you could always keep making new trial acounts and transfering your items and money over to the new one.
with full acount thats dont delete your character until you have been away for 6months i expect trial acounts get pruned alot more often though

I have been playing EVE since release in april 2003 and even though it can be quite fun, given that your in a good corporation, it has a tendency to get a bit tedious in the long run. There is honestly not that much to do part from mining ore and farming pirate bots (NPCs).
Untill the upcomming expansion (patch) called Shiva there has been one major issue with the game. There was no player owned structures to attack and defend, thus all wars was fought with no gain part from the fun of it. Shiva however will introduce player owned structures that can further your revenue... if you can defend it. Big step in the right direction IMHO.
EVE can seem to be complicated, but thats more or less an illusion. The learning curve is just one big step and once your over it you get sorta bored. But you can always configure your ship in another 100 ways if you got time to spend.
One nice feature compared to other MMO games is the fact that you train skills even when your not logged on. Start you 15 day Battleship skill and log off, when you come back 15 days later its complete.
If you like space sims, strategy, management, social interaction and sci-fi in general then you should try the free trial of EVE.

I do agree with you on the "no money sinks" seeing as how our corp wallet is bursting, and not even fighting Moo and Evol at the same time has managed to change that.
Im actually glad you mentioned PvP fighting because I have a few rather strong issues with it. Its to simple and to fast!
Its simple in that it lacks in any real tactical movements. Sure one can still hunt in small packs within Empire space and catch the odd pirate with his guard down. But the large scale battles conducted in alliance space has little tactical stimuli to offer seeing as fleet engagements are both laggy and direct, leaving no room to manuver different ships into their optimal position before the mayham begins. Well if your the camping fleet you have a bit more room for tactical placement. But still, with battleships going down in flames within 10 seconds of engagement start most people do not have the time to use eny viable tactics part from trying to concentrate fire.
With the grid enlarged I cant see why CCP arent allowing for longer jump in ranges then 60Km... Up to 300Km would be nice since most BS can do damage at ranges far exceeding the 100Km range. This would allow for fleet jump-in and the server to catch up before the battle begins.
Also without the player Owned Structures PvP is a "No Win" activity as it leads to no gain for any of the antagonsits. But as I said before, that will HOPFULLY be corrected in Shiva. That only leaves us with the problem of alliances not being able to protect their borders.
I think a recognized alliance should be able to, through server side mechanisms, lock jumpgates down. They should be crackable by the enemy, but it shoud take a couple of hours of work. Cloakable scouts as Buzzards should be able to penetrate the jumpgate lock and scout the insode without the possebillity to do much damage themselves.
Now if we can only get CCP to catch on...
