carbon was just a mod for underground ii, even most of the race tracks were the same..
Few new cars, reworked interface & main menu, new movies and voila - a new NFS...

Just finished carbon and was very dissapointed.
Just too much like same old shit, different label, and had been really looking forward to it (despite warnings of same).
Will prolly avoid the next one.

No it wasn't, nothing like Underground 2 except it was at night. Totally different map. There weren't any boring canyon races in Underground or the pointless police chases borrowed from Most Wanted. Most Wanted was better apart from the tedious bounty and milestone requirements .....

Underground - good
Underground 2 - crap
Most Wanted - good
Carbon - crap
next one - according to the patern, should be good

I'm sick and tired of all these cloned car games with all those sports cars.
Fuck, be original for once. Do a game where you drive an rusty old Volvo 245. Or a AMC Pacer with dents in it and bad paint, or a beaten down Volkswagen Golf 2 from 1983.
Or Ford Scorpio, or Opel Vectra 1991. Or... Fuck, the possibilities are endless.
There's already 1 million car games where you drive a Porsche or Ferrari. Rally Trophy is the only one I know where you can drive both an Volvo Amazon and a Saab 96. I love that game.

I love Flat-Out 1 & 2, but I mean just like a "normal" car game. Normal streets, normal or at least partly normal racing. Flat-Out is just pure carnage (wich of course is great!).

Ive heard somwhere that in the new NFS you will return to the MW City (forgot the name) and it will be at night just like Carbon (and will prolly suck just like Carbon). I dont even remember where I've heard it so dont take it too serious and/or start flaming.

Heh, looks like it. For now NFS has just ripped of movies, like 2 fast 2 furious for underground and fast&furious:tokyo drift for carbon.
(waiting for TDU as well)

The Need For Speed franchise is done and has been done for a long time. Remember playing the Original Need for Speed on Sega Saturn? I remember picking the Lamborghini Diablo every time and using it because it was so badass in black, yeah the Ferrari my bro used could out corner me but on the straights I would fly by him.
The original premise of exotic cars we wish to drive and long straights with winding high speed turns has all been tossed out the window. Instead they are trying to accommodate current trends in culture.
I think its a mix of two things that made the series go down the drain, one is that it can only be repeated so many times at some point it will lose its flair and second the design and directional decisions made by the NFS team.
Look at Carbon, when I pick the Koenigsegg instead of getting the feeling that im driving a insanely fast and expensive ride its just blah, yeah it accelerates fast and turns good but blah. And then you go pick the Evo or STi and nothing differentiates the three. Besides the fact they they applied the stereotypical Muscle pulls hard, Exotics have top end etc garbage its like all the cars are identical but they put on a different shell on each. I guess they've lost their "oh shit thats a Lambo or Porche" feeling.
I dunno I gave up on the NFS series.
