I think we shouldn't discuss pre-emptive strikes at all, since this is a hypotetical situation, and we can't know who would attack first. If there wasn't a preemptive strike, and both countries gone to war at the same time, there would probably be an extensive naval battles, before they can even deploy air or ground troops.

Since this is a hypotetical situation, of course we can discuss pre-emptive strikes! And while you are at it, you can add Goldeneye type satelittes to the discussion. All is valid since it's hypotetical after all.

In a fight between Europe and the USA, the USA wouldn't win, they would humiliate Europe.
They have better equipment, more money and the advantage unity.

yeah but some are dumb enough to shoot in their own feet.
and i bet there is a difference between having a gun standing before people without guns or having a gun and seeing waves of soldiers coming |

You seem all to miss the nuclear weapons and the intertwined trade, it can't have a open war between the US and the EU, it would be a lose-lose conflict, with hardly anyone surviving.

Using nukes would be a risk if there was a war between US and Europe...it could turn into a world war rather than a 2 part war (if you count EU as ONE country that is)

Well, Turkey alone will eat US but they'r not in Europe so : ) US seems to show off alot but they are nothing but machine dependent. US can only bully poor countries peh.

I don't see how using nuclear weapons would ignite more of a world war than a conflict between 500 millions of europeans and 300 millions americans.
Do you actually believe that one side will wait for the other to use it first in an open war of that scale?
It would already be a world war, with others countries rallying to their closest partner (i.e. maybe Japan with the US, Russians with the EU, etc).

Cos if 1 nuke is used, more countries will realize they can be the next target (like korea, china) and attack too. We also have russia which I concider to be a ticking bomb.
