yes its that ime again to revive this thread. my god

my original plan was to go to the movies with a mate. ok so we go, it ends at 0.30 (eragon btw) critics are wrong, its a nice movie, not lord of the rings but pretty nice, better then most movies in the theater. then we go for a drink( my mate doesnt drink so he leaves at 1 (he had a examn in 2 days)) so i spend 4 hours in the same bar talking to the boss (who was drunk although he doesnt like to admit it). i already knew him btw but not that good.

it was nice but now im thinking fuck its late and i have to study tomorrow Sad . i drank 12 beers and 1 ricard and was on the way to getting wasted and then he closes (i was the only one there for 3 hours Laughing).

im getting sober again Sad Sad (i dont drink alone btw, whats the fun in that (and i would overdo it anyways))

Yeah drinking alone is shitty. Whats great is that my best friends dad owns a rather popular club, so apart from free entry/alcohol/membership we also get to stay as late as we want.

Sometimes his dad even goes home and lets us lock up! I remember stumbling out of there at 8am with about 7 mates, it was insane. Because it's in the middle of a field we can turn the music up as loud as we want too. Very Happy

at a mate of mines birthday party (it was held at his home that was also in a open field area) we could also turn the music up as high as we wanted. And then everything went bad Laughing Laughing

Loud music muffles screams. When you can't hear someone screaming for help, things usually go bad pretty fast :0

Sometimes I like to have a couple of glasses of wine alone at home, sometimes it is just nice to I am always driving too so 99% of the time I go out I can't drink anyway. So I make it fair for myself in my own way. Smile

During the two weeks of my three week holiday I spent every night wasted (even more so when guests were involved) Sad so I quit drinking.

Drinking alone is fun, but it can't be always controlled. You often go drinking with friends who'll know when to tell you to stop so you'll actually get home in one piece. But at home, alone, without a soul to stop (so to speak), you just drink and drink until your eyes become heavy, your speech slurred, your breathing slow and you can't move your fingers to save your life. Which is fun when you have a bed just a fall away. Wink but do it enough of times alone and you see how it's not a habit anymore, so you kinda either quit or let the lifestyle... take over you Sad

It’s kinda shitty. This whole quitting thing. I hosted an apocalypto party yesterday. Made drinks for a few. Laughing I just drank orange juice. I think I drank a lot ‘cause I was so hyper the next day. Today. But I’m sooo thirsty. Like, I’m parched. Laughing It’s my second week without a drink. So I’m happy that I haven’t touched a thing yet.

@waldo
I guess some people need to have others around them to tell them when to quit and others are born with a stop mechanism.

That's good to have a mechanism like that.

I don't think I have one. Sad I think it's hereditary or summin. My sis has the same prob, same with m'dad.

I might have it since I quit and such. I think. But when I was drinking, I needed someone to just stop pouring it for me to stop. And then by myself I just kept going. Sad I’m glad I quit for now. Smile

I don't have such a mechanism either, anyway cheers mate. Best thing to do is not to drink but you already know that. In my case i am not ready yet to make such a decision. I would lose a hobby as well

sure Very Happy well I guess it depends, if you were to try them all out in one night I wouldn't call it a hobby ^^

Drinking alone sucks, at least for me, makes me depressive because I'm home alone drinking, but since I'll be living in a ... Damn I don't know the english word for it. It's an appartment and I live there with 2 girls and another guy, how would you call it? Well what I wanted to say is I'm student and they are so there will be a lot of drinking. Just bought 2 cases of beer yesterday ^^

Yeah, but over here in germany there is a special word for it called "Wohngemeinschaft" something that sounds like livingcommunity if you would translate it directly...

http://german.about.com/library/blvoc_wohn.htm

just looks like it's a special word for shared accommodation Wink

Quote:
Find a room on your own: Wohngemeinschaft (“flat sharing")

As living costs are high, flat sharing (Wohngemeinschaft, WG) is very common in Germany. This means that two or more people, often students, share a house or a flat.

actually, a lot of people share apartments here without being students, Toronto is expensive ...

I think some people get depressed when they drink if they don't have people around them to occupy their mind. Sounds like you are going to have some fun.

Do people think it is a age thing? Staying home more because it is just easier and more confortable, you place is your own and not room mates? Mostly likely people stay home because after Uni comes the Uni debt and Uni debt = no fun Sad

understatement of the year Razz

I wonder about the age thing too. I have no problem drinking a few by myself.... I don't think I really did it so much when I was younger ... but now I seem to be able to enjoy (not abuse) alcohol on my own Smile

Seriously, there is absolutely no good reason not to have a beer/glass of wine (or god forbid, a couple) with every dinner you sit down to eat.

Wine is good for certain meals. I'm learning how to cook fish so I can enjoy white wine.

Beer is good while making dinner. Y'know. A nice cold drink in the middle of the day while slaving over a hot stove. But with a meal, I don't think beer is good not matter what meal. It's just not that tasty.

Maybe with fries and a hot dog. Y'know. But a home cooked meal, a good one, beer just isn't good. It's a clash of tastes, I guess you have to be used to it or something. Sad
I never liked beer. Very Happy

-
It's not an age thing. It's a personal environment thing. I think.
Like where you live, who you are, what you do. Etc.
Age has nothing to do with it.

You're either brought up to abuse it, or you're brought up to enjoy it. Laughing

BEER GOES WITH EVERYTHING!!!! Razz

I've even stopped going out to dinner to places that don't have draught beer. It's really good with everything, especially pub grub. Fuck ... even Italian, doesn't really matter. I guess I just like beer more than you Wink

and white wine is OK, but I prefer red (Shiraz being my favourite) Razz

Not really.
I still think it depends on how you were brought up and how your environment is.

If you're normal with drinks then yeah.
A few here and there will make an evening more enjoyable.
No matter on the age.
It’s just calmer as you mature.

Beer doesn't go with everything, man!
Fawk man!
I find beer disgusting!
I can’t enjoy a beer with a meal. It’s just, to me, insane to think that such a combination is good. Sad

Sad I guess it's just an acquired taste, so yeah, if you don't actually like beer ... I doubt you would like it with a meal Wink
