I hate all anime. Thats my taste.
I have no problems with blood and gore, its just the daydream world the creators of anime and the people who watch it live in that annoys me.

Except Princess Mononoke, the sore exception.

So why did you like Mononoke and not Spirited away to name but one...they're both about as fantasy-like as you can get and made by Hayao Miyazaki.

Personally, I love like series like Wolf's rain (my absolute all time favorite with music composed by Yoko Kanno (Bebop)), Last exile and Haibane renmei.

I might actually try watching some of the anime titles mentioned in this thread, and not the Decapitron and god knows what else they put me through.

i didn't like any of those.. sure the art is gorgeous but the authors crammed WAY too many political views into what was supposed to be a fairytale.

A couple of years ago there was an independantly made series made in flash, you could watch it for free on the creators website. Does this ring a bell for anyone? I never got to watching it, but now i'd like to.

Spent my sunday afternoon watching "The melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi" 9.5/10

No less than bloody amazing , almost can't believe I've had this little gem on my hd for months without even checking it out.
That ENOZ concert in the 12th ep was just, wow!

Plot (anidb):

Quote:
This is a story of Suzumiya Haruhi, who upon enrollment at school announced, "I have no interest in ordinary humans. If there are any aliens, beings from the future, or super-humans, come see me. That is all!"

Naturally, any normal person would think "What the...?" but Haruhi is dead serious. Things get crazy when everyone realizes just how serious she is about it all and establishes the "SOS Dan".

Suzumiya Haruhi is a good-looking high school girl who has a clear head, naughty personality and very egocentric thought. She has an unimaginably tremendous power to change the world, but she is totally unaware of her own power and so she is also unaware of the effect of her power on the outside world.

Well it was really well-known, and very well made, looked almost as good as the proffessionally made ones.

I actually interpreted as an anime that could be downloaded in flash format, not that it was actually made in flash. That can be called animation but not anime, i think

"Starship Troopers Roughnecks". If you haven't seen it, DO! "Slim12345" mentioned it in the "Last watched movie" thread. I totally missed it (never heard about it before) got it and watched it, and its bloody good for an animated frigging TV series.

Finally someone else is watching that, it kicks ass. Smile

The battle Saber has with another swordsman toward the end is some of the best animating I've ever seen (admittedly I have not seen a lot, but still Razz)

btw i tought anime stands for animated cartoon, no?

I was gonna correct it a little ELIZ, didn't think you'd reply so fast tbh...

But you're terribly wrong, it does have to do with their beauty ideals and bigger eyes make it easier to convey emotions.
And not nearly all anime revolves around japanese people btw.

Take this for example, from cowboy bebop:

Do those characters really have such humongous eyes?

And anime is a subsection of animation, as in animation originating from Japan/Korea.

Quote:

iron man was not anime. anime might mean animation, but its JAPANESE animation, and the name anime has been associated with their unique style and type of storytelling, its very much different than cartoons or western animation, so myself and im sure many others, will tell you that anime is a very different beast from other animated shows/features.

that being said, didnt think the iron man flick was THAT great... id say the first half was really good, but the ending was a let down... just my feelings on it Very Happy
